I had surgery (first half of a DS) in November '06, I'm 7 months out.... lost a little over 100 pounds and feel pretty good!, but did a repeat sleep study and my settings changed from a 13 to a 12. Not a big change, huh? I'm disappointed..... the pulmonologist was not sooo sympathetic... What do you think? Only fat people have sleep apnea? He asked me. Well, maybe the next 50 or so pounds will improve the apnea.... I can keep hoping! Mary C

Hi Mary, I lost over 100 pounds also and I still have to use my c-pap machine but I have graduated to "nose pillows" and my machine has a humidifier built in to it which makes it more bearable...I asked my Doctor for these things...your dr doesn't sound too nice. you might want to consider finding another dr good luck, sherri

I lost 90 pounds with my RnY and still have severe sleep apnea. My calibration went from 20 to 10 though. Now I have gained weight so I have to lose it again to get of that dang $##@# machine.

some babies are born with sleep apnea, and sleep apnea as in my case was caused by my inherited hiatal hernia that caused massive reflux that caused my larynx /pharynx to thicken, and throat to protect my lungs from vomit us. a deadly pneumonia. long before i became obese. Apnea causes obesity, when your tired, you don't burn calories. right. who keeping an eye on the ds forum?

the DS forum is doing fine, with my limited participation (laughing) I'm not a Renegade, or Prayerful, or a Mother Hen, so I just do some reading, an occasional post or question, and it all seems to run just fine without my interference... (sigh) I do get so jealous over the DS eating habits, though..... I want my second half operation and I WANT IT NOW!!!!! Mary C
