I had surgery in March. I've now lost 90 pounds since my highest weight (when I was perscribed a c-pap machine. My neck size is now down to about a 16 from a 19. I know my sleep apnea is gone because I feel rested when I awake, and my wife confirms I am not having the apneatic episodes I used to have. She is a light sleeper, and everything I do wakes her up. We are now both sleeping better, and I think my machine is going to become a paper weight. --Dave

Congrats on your weight loss and no more apnea! You may want to think about donating it. The medical CPAP store that I have mine from accepts them to use for those who do not have insurance. That way only the mask and accessories have to be purchased cash. Considering that my CPAP cost $1500.00! I couldn't imagine having to pay that out of pocket.

Congratulations! I sure hope I'm one of the people who can donate their machine to someone who needs it - I'm just beginning to journey to RNY. Good for you! :-)

You really need to have a sleep study to confirm that you blood chemistry is good, its more than snoring, like the senors in a car, you can be sensitized to a lower oxygen level/high co2 level and it can take some time to adjust, snoring is just one symptom. Blood gases are a important part of it.

Thanks for the kind words of advice. I've now lost 142 lbs since my highest weight, and am at goal. I feel better than ever, and am truly resting when I sleep. Maybe some day I'll do another sleep test, but it's not in my near future. All of my physical symptoms are now gone, and my wife can attest I'm not gasping for air in my sleep. Take care, --Dave

Would you be interrested in donating your machine to me? I had sleep studies a couple months ago and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. My insurance gave me 30 days to acclimate to the machine. Long story short: I didnt use the machine enough for them to approve the purchase of the CPAP, so I had to return it. I am waiting on insurance approval for WLS but my surgeon says all my ducks are in a row, so to speak, so he foresee's no problems. He said I could be in surgery by the end of October or beginning of November. He did, however, request that I get a CPAP for use following my surgery, while on pain meds. He said that after that if I still didnt want to use a CPAP, he'd be alright with it. My insurance requires 2 more sleep studies in order to approve another months rental! I've scheduled the appointments, but am months away from getting the machine. My surgeon said I should try to get a donated one from another patient who no longer needs theirs or rent or buy it outright. Well, the cost of buying(>$1400) or renting a machine($425) is cost prohibitive, so I'm trying to find a kind person on here to donate one...Will you help? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. Have a nice day!
