Taking mask off in my sleep

Hi all, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2003 and was given a CPAP. I tried using it for about 3 months, but I ran into a problem where I took my mask off (unknowingly) in my sleep every night. So, I stopped using it. Recently, in preparation for RNY, I have begun using it again. Unfortunately, I am still having the same problem of taking it off in my sleep. I really don't know what to do at this point. It's not that the mask is uncomfortable or doesn't fit or anything like that. I talked to my doctor about it and he basically shrugged and said some people don't tolerate the CPAP. Have any of you encountered this problem, and if so, what did you do? Thanks, -Jenna

I have taken mine off in my sleep also. Who knows why we do it. I suggest that you keep at it. Better part of the night then none of the night. Aime

Yep I used to take my mask off during the night unknowingly as well. I just kept at it and it got better. The longest I've kept it on is about 7 hours but on the average I only sleep for 5 hours so that is pretty much all I do. Good luck and I hope you are getting some restful sleep.

I take mine off usually because the humidifier is set too high or low. If I dont have enough humidity my nose gets really dry. If I have to much the moisture makes my nose itch. I usually have it set at about 2. Sometimes it just annoys me. I can't function if I dont have it on at least 5 hours a night though!
