what's a secret pal?

Hi .... I became a member a few months back and I'm just going over all the site areas.
I am curious what a Secret Pal is?  Is it someone who lives near you? As I am in Canada..

Hi, Laurie.  I am the Zone Leader for Canada.  We have 4 from Canada playing right now. 

As far as what you do...you need to be in touch supporting and encouraging your pal via e-mail, snail mail and this board at least 3 times a week and then once a month you mail a package/gift.
