Happy Tuesday!! So cold out poor Meisha didn't even want to go out to go potty. Lucky for her I have the big garden/greenhouse so she just had to run quickly to that instead of walking around in the snow. Her paws were getting cold walking in the snow and she won't let me put booties on them.
Doesn't look like much happened at work yesterday since my desk doesn't have an notes on it or any messages on my phone. I wish I could have stayed home today just not feeling like working.
QOTD: If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be? Honestly I'm not sure. It would have to be a place that doesn't get these rotten subzero temps and I need to be near the ocean for fishing purposes which I guess kinda puts several places out of the running. I might choose New Zealand. The scenery is beautiful and they filmed LOTR maybe I can live in a Hobbit Hole.
B: coffee
L: oxtails and rice
D: sliced ham and green beans
I'm going to pull my little space heater out since it's chilly here in the office.
Have a great day everyone!!!
Well it's a cold and snowy start this Monday morning here in CT. The next few days are supposed to be pretty cold with a high of 2 degrees and a windchill of -15. I called my boss and told him I was taking a PTO day. There's 5 inches of snow on the ground with ice underneath and I didn't feel like driving in that crap.
We decided to hold off on getting the Billy goat due to the cold weather that we are expecting. We added an IBC tote in the trailer for an added area for them to sleep with extra straw, but wanted to see how the two girls do first.
QOTD: Do you ever have "dinner" food for breakfast? Sometimes I have foods that one would consider a dinner or even a lunch food for breakfast. Especially if I pre-make a bunch of stuff over the weekend.
B: bowl of chili with sharp cheese
L: seafood gumbo
D: turkey salad
I'll be doing some shoveling today so that should cover my exercise.
Have a wonderful day everyone.
I love porkchops, but they can get dry fast and cause issues. I started cooking them in my cast iron pan with a gravy. I pan sear first then add a gravy usually an onion mushroom one and bake covered for an hour. So far every time they are tender and juicy.
You can still have a small farm and not raise the animals for food. My mom has I don't know how many chickens, a donkey, a horse, 3 sheep, 2 pea****s, 2 cats, and 2 dogs. She sometimes collects the eggs from the chickens, but they are all just pets.
The sky in the Summer is great. I love just laying on the lawn at night and seeing the stars.
I personally would talk with Emma and say something like "hey Emma I would really appreciate it if you help me make better and healthier meals for all of us" and ask her if there is anything that she would like to try making. I know 16 can be a tough age to get them to engage in doing things, but maybe look up healthier meals on Youtube together.
As for the two younger ones again slowly start introducing a new food each week. Not sure if you and your family eat out or do fast foods, but there are so many different hacks out there that can make those McDonald's chicken nuggets a healthy food that is made at home or really any other fast food can be made as a healthy alternative at home.
I always think outside the box. One of my go to snacks is a dill pickle wrapped with cheese and deli ham or chicken. It might seem strange, but its good and filling.
WooHoo it's Friday!!! Meisha is still on Finley's ****list. She even caught a bird and tried to give it to him. Yea he wasn't having any of it. She walked away with her head down whining.
Not all that much planned for the weekend. Just picking up the Billy goat from my SIL that we looked at last weekend.
I think Irvin wants me to make a seafood gumbo which I'm OK with since I love gumbo. He's been watching this self-taught chef on youtube and the dude can make some pretty darn good-looking dishes. He also makes Ox tail which looked amazing I've only had them once before made by an old Southern lady and they were to die for.
QOTD: Movie theater or at home streaming? I haven't been to a movie theater in over 20 years. Anything I want to watch I just wait until it's available to stream. With the cost of tickets and then snacks plus having to deal with strangers I'll just stay home thank you.
B: coffee and 2 scrambled eggs with cheese
L: buffalo chicken wrap
D: beef stew
S: carrots and radishes
30 minutes on the treadmill
Have a wonderful day everyone.
I don't think cats would have to be back to full size to eat us. If they are hungry and their bowl is empty they are going to start chewing away probably starting on our toes and then work their way up the legs.
And don't even get me started on the mini-Velociraptors that are called chickens. If you or anyone wants to know what a cannibalistic animal is just throw a rotisserie chicken in a chicken coop. They will pick that carcass clean in about 5 minutes flat. Never and I mean never go in the coop with shorts on and a fresh cut. Those suckers see red and they are on you like white on rice pecking at you. For some reason they love the sight of blood and go after it.
When you say picky eaters what is it that they do like to eat?
Something that might work is having one night a week where they have to try a new food. Be it a vegetable or fruit even something like tuna or chicken salad. How old are your kids? Any of them old enough to help you cook or prepare the food?
Em there is never a dull moment with the animals on the farm. LOL
Mel I think you would love living on a farm just because you get along well with animals.
That meme is great. Some people would need an entire truck of poop dumped on them to grow up.
Happy Friday Eve. Brrr it's cold again this morning. Yea I know I should be used to it by now, but taking the dog out at 4am and having that cold air smack you in the face is not the wakeup call one wants. LOL
So funny story. Apparently, our cat Finley caught a rabbit and brought it into the garage at some point yesterday. The garage is attached to the house and when I take Meisha out to the backyard we go through the garage and out the backdoor. Well, she found said rabbit who was already half eaten by the cat. She took the rabbit outside to finish eating it. Now remember she is raw fed, and the cat is at times when he feels like it. Well Finley came flying up from the side of the house to see her eating his rabbit and I have never in my life seen a cat so pissed off. He was staring into her soul. Meisha took the rabbit and ran behind the greenhouse with the cat in pursuit. She ate the rest of it and then tried to be all nicey nice to Fin. Well, he wasn't having any of it. Finley went Halloweenie cat on her. A 65lb German Shepherd got her ass handed to her by a 10lb Manx cat. Lesson learned do not take Finley's food especially if it is a rabbit he caught. We couldn't stop laughing.
QOTD: This is going to be funny. Would you rather deal with a German Shepherd who looks all big and scary (but really just wants to give you kisses) or a Demon cat who wants to steal your soul for taking his food. LOL
I'm going with the GS. That cat scared me I swear his eyes turned red and he was out for blood.
B: Just some coffee today not really hungry this morning
L: Soup and cajun turkey wrap
D: chicken thighs with toss salad
30 minutes on the treadmill
Have a great day everyone!!!!
It is definitely coyote mating season. My German Shepherd is not allowed off leash during this time and she hates it. So I have to put her on a long line so she can run around, but still be within grabbing range should the yotes start howling. We have a pack that lives behind the cornfield.
Of course if I ran into one in the store I would ask it if he wanted to come home with me. LOL.
Happy Hump Day!!!
Irvin's birthday dinner was amazing. He was so happy with everything. The sirloin was grilled to perfection medium rare and we only ate half of it. The squash pie came out perfect and I added walnuts and pecans to it for an added treat. The best part was his morning sugar was only 139 considering all the carbs and sugar he had.
Work was also pretty smooth yesterday considering I was in the scale house. Usually it's crazy, but things were uneventful.
QOTD: Do you drink enough liquids? I've always been a water drinker (well over 64oz a day) more than any other fluid even coffee. Irvin on the other hand hardly drink water and usually has 3 cups of coffee a day. Since the 1st I've been nagging him to drink more and even got him Hin****er. Surprisingly he's been drinking 3 bottles of water a day and he says he feels better since drinking more.
B: steak and eggs
L: scampi
D: lamb gyro
30 minutes on the treadmill
Have a great day everyone!!!
That's a possibility. I'm just glad he's not tossing and turning all night.
That's awesome they fixed the tire for free. Some place will charge you $20 to take a nail out and plug it.
Meditation is so relaxing at night. We've done it off and on for a few years and recently have committed to doing every night. We actually use Youtube and we listen to 10,000 hertz sounds. Supposedly it helps to heal the body. Does it? I don't know, but we both sleep pretty well and Irvin was one not to sleep well at all so it does something. He has a back injury from 2017 that has always caused him to only sleep a few hours, but since the middle of December he's been sleeping a good 7-8 hours solid and if he happens to get up during the night to use the bathroom he can fall right back to sleep. That's something he wasn't able to do in the past. I hope the meditation helps you Mel.
Good Morning everyone. Posting super early as I have to cover the scale today. We have a waterwash on boiler 1 and our scale attendant is out this week her half-sister passed away unexpectedly which is very sad. So I have to go in for 6am.
Irvin's doctor's appointment went great his A1c is down from 8.7 to 6.2 and his doctor was super happy. She didn't push any meds or vaccinations on him which is good, because he likes to do things naturally and doesn't have much trust in big pharma at all. Today is his birthday he's 67 and I'm making him shrimp and lobster scampi with grilled sirloin and he wants squash pie for dessert. I have the butternut squash in the instant pot so that will be ready before I leave for work. You guys know me what ever I can make from scratch I do.
QOTD: Speaking of work do you like your job? I've had a few over the years, but I've been with Wheelabrator/Win-Waste for 15 years and hope to be with them for at least another 15. While I have days that I question why I'm there I do like and enjoy my job, I just don't like dealing with co-workers who don't do their jobs.
B: sliced lamb and eggs
L: buffalo chicken wrap
D: sirloin and scampi
Exercise will be walking back and forth from the scale house to the office that should be at least equal to 30 minutes or more on the treadmill.
Have a great day!!!!
Good Monday morning. Not much happened the weekend. We did go get a big alfalfa bale for the rabbits and the farm we went to in Somers, CT sells dry aged Red Angus beef. So we ended up getting some brisket, sirloins, and liver.
Then we went to my SIL's to see about using one of her Billy goats to breed to our two girls. We picked her boy Patches who is a year and a half old and just a little cutie. He should cross well with ours. We pick him up this weekend and we will have him for a month.
QOTD: I'm kind of stumped for a question (I haven't had enough coffee yet LOL) If anyone has one please feel free to post one.
B: just coffee Irvin did a fast yesterday and this morning before his doctor's appointment so I joined him.
L: Cajun turkey wrap with Swiss cheese
D: leg of lamb with cheesy broccoli
S: cucumber and celery
30 minutes on the treadmill
Have a great day everyone.
Mmm Sauerbraten I haven't had that in years. My dad used to make it along with potato pancakes. It was one of his great aunts' recipes from Germany. My oldest sister has all his recipes when he passed 11 years ago and she refuses to give me a copy.
People are crazy nowadays. Sorry your sister had to deal with that miserable person.
Those 4 will be our breeders, but the offspring will be for eating.
I would have said ham for you Grim. Yes, it is so nice having the days a little longer each day.
Mel you do such beautiful work. I don't think I would have the patience to work with those links.
Happy Friday!!! This week actually wasn't that bad. We did great with our safety audit and end up having a surprise DEEP inspection by the state which we passed with flying colors. Out of all the plants that Wheelabrator/Win-Waste operators the Lisbon one is always on top of things.
Not much planned for the weekend. We are going to get a big bale of alfalfa hay for the rabbits to nibble on and I plan on just picking through things in the office to clean it up a bit more.
QOTD: What is your favorite type of protein beef, chicken, pork or seafood? I eat mainly chicken and pork since that is what I raise. But when there is a good sale on fish like cod, haddock or other types of sal****er white fi****ry to stock up on that so I can have it on hand, and it has to be wild caught farm raised fish is fed junk that is not good for them or us. As much as I like beef if it's not pasture raised it causes issues with Irvin's blood sugar, and we think it's because of what the cow is feed usually corn and soy. Of course, pasture raised beef is rather pricey, so we keep that for special occasions like a birthday or holiday.
B: 2 eggs and homemade sausage patti
L: chicken livers wrapped in bacon
D: baked haddock with spinach and parm cheese
S: beef jerky
Have a wonderful Friday everyone!!!
Well that took forever to resize the pictures of the rabbits. These are our breeding pairs. The two Creme ones are Price and Princess and the two gray/black ones are Jack and Jill (Irvin named them)
Good morning Jennifer and Menuers,
So sorry to hear about your back. Hope the stretches help. I also want to thank yinz for being concerned about Rudy's paws. We have reverted to walking through the back yard and along the tree line in the 9 inches of snow rather than put him in misery with the salt. He doesn't stop and shake his paws now, so it has to be the salt and not the cold. Thanks for the advice with the Epson salts. I will try to soak him this evening. And As for the shoes Mary, It's a big NO! I own them but no chance of him wearing them.
QOTD: Deer meat. My husband got 3 deer this year. I even subjected myself to processing them with him. I will cook it and he and Rudy love it, but I will not eat it. It smells great just something in my head. I think I remember my dad making meatballs with it as a kid and not telling us till after we ate it that traumatized me.
Accountability: Grr 2 club crackers with PeanutButter, butter and Jelly. It is so hard when it is this cold All I want is comfort food.
TSS: 7 years 0-months 29-days 167.4 Lowest (129.4)
B: Coffee with SF Coffee-Mate Chocolate Caramel creamer

CB: Coffee with SF Coffee-Mate Chocolate Caramel creamer
L: crack chicken with Arkansas Green Beans and strawberries and blueberries
D: chicken Fajita

Have a great day my friends.

OH won't let me edit my other response. Venison is amazing and if prepared correctly is even better than beef. I love when the guys at work bring me in some. You should really give it a try. Plus, the protein content is great.
I didn't get a chance to post it yesterday, but if you have Vaseline try putting a thin layer on his paws before you go out. I helps to block the salt from irritating the pads.
Oh no. I hope JB's dad is going to be OK. Tell her I'm sending healing vibes his way.
