Good morning gang. We got some rain last night and today it is windy, but 50 out. The temps are slowly getting warmer here in the Northeast.

A friend posted yesterday on FB that he was at a local feed store and couldn't figure out why there was a line out the door. Come to find out people were there to purchase chicks to raise their own chickens for eggs. Now don't get me wrong I think it's great that people want to grow their own stuff, but if you've never raised chicken before then you have no idea what oneself is getting into. It takes 6 months before they are at laying age and by the time that comes around, we will be heading into Fall which means the chicken will experience their first molt. Then Winter hits and chickens don't really lay much of any eggs due to the darker days. So basically, if someone gets chicks now, they will be raising them for a year before they get much of any eggs and that's if they don't lose them to predators or something else. These people will spend more money on trying to have chickens than they would for those $10 a dozen eggs in the store. But what do I know I've only been raising them for 20 years.

QOTD: If you had the land and the time would you grow your own food even if it is just fruits and vegetables? You all know I already do that, but we are always looking for a larger piece of land to be able to grow more stuff. We are hoping to add a few sheep to the homestead this year for both more milk and meat.

Happy Hump Day. We are halfway through the week. This meme is perfect for today. I currently have more black garlic in the fermenter and 4 trays of fresh crushed garlic in the dehydrator which are both in the garage, but the smell is so strong you can smell it outside. I had a neighbor text me last night asking if I could smell garlic and I texted him back that I was protecting the neighborhood from any pending vampire attacks and explained what I was doing. He laughed and then asked when he could buy some. LOL

Our HR rep is coming to the plant on Monday. I'm not sure if it is for the employee who missed the random testing or for the employees who have numerous call outs, but it should be an interesting day.

QOTD: What's your favorite part of where you live? I would have to say besides the different Seasons I really like that within a couple of hours or less of a drive I can either be in the Mountains or by the ocean.

Good morning gang. Got half of my pepper seeds planted last night and in two weeks will do the rest along with some tomato and eggplant. Then in April I will do the other veggies that don't take as long to germinate and grow.

It amazes me how there are people who have a good paying job but just don't want to show up to work. We have a few people who since the beginning of January have called out over 10 times making up all sorts of excuses. Well today I had scheduled random drug testing for 4 people to get it done before the start of our first annual out on the 10th with the collector coming to the plant.

Don't ya know that one of the people picked is one of them who have called out just about every day shift he is supposed to work. I have tried to schedule him a few other times since the random picks were pulled, but he just keeps calling out. So I get to contact corporate and let them know that I cannot get him tested before the due date of the 13th because he again called out and is not scheduled for days until after the 18th and that is if he doesn't call out again. Oh and this guy has only been with us for 4 months. Me personally would fire him, but I'm not in control of that.

QOTD: What's your favorite day of the week? Mine is Friday. Just because I know I don't have to work on Saturday or Sunday. LOL.

Good Monday morning everyone. The weekend was pretty good. We got three alfalfa bales for the rabbits and goats and while we were at the farm I asked if they had any beef specials going on. They still had the sirloins 15% off so we went over to the beef store. Ended up with a few sirloins and a nice big flank steak to make jerky.

QOTD: What is your earliest memory? I remember when I was 3 1/2 sitting on my grandfather's lap while he was baling hay. He would watch me while my mom ran errands sometimes. We were stopped by the edge of a field looking at two squirrels playing when we heard my mom yell from across the field. She was yelling at him to not let me fall off. He just gave her a look "like really I'm not going to let her fall". He died a year later from colon cancer.

Morning gang. I'm so glad it is Friday. I have to call Ready Refresh they are who supplies us with bottled water at the plant. They never made the delivery yesterday and now rescheduled it to Monday. I have a feeling today is going to be a long day.

Nothing much for the weekend planned. Hoping to start some more black garlic and some seeds for the peppers. We are going to get a few alfalfa bales for the rabbits and goats.

QOTD: What is your preferred method of communication? I prefer to talk to people on the phone instead of texting or emailing unless it has something to do with a work issue, then I will email just to have a trail of what was said.

Good morning gang. Yesterday ended up being a very productive day at work and also at home. Even though the copier at work decided to stop working we have backup printers so I was still able to get just about everything done that needed to be completed. Then when I got home I got the rabbits cleaned out, went through a couple more totes, and then just chilled for an hour before going to bed at 9.

We got 27 eggs from the chickens so I brought two dozen in to work to sell my price is still $5 a dozen the same as it has been since 2020 when the feed went up. A couple of people asked me if I was going to raise my prices and I said nope unless the feed prices go crazy, so now I have a few people who want to buy them from me every week. When your fresh eggs are cheaper than Walmart that just shows you the corporate greed that is out there.

QOTD: What is your favorite topic to talk about? Farming/gardening. I could talk all day about raising farm animals and growing vegetables. I don't know why, but it feels so satisfying to me when people say wow I didn't know about XYZ.

Happy Hump Day gang. Yesterday started off quiet, but by lunchtime it turned into a hectic afternoon. After the BAU audit last week, it was determined that the mobile equipment inspection forms needed to be revamped. A person was assigned to do that because they said they could, well they had nothing but issues trying to figure out how to adjust the tables in Word. So, my PM asked me if I could do them, yes, I can, but they are time consuming and a pain in the ass. I have 23 of them to revamp and after spending 3 hours yesterday only got 6 done. Today is going to be a long day, but at least we are closer to the weekend.

QOTD: What is the most irrational superstition you have? I have to have my legs/feet covered when I sleep or something is going to grab them and take me away. It doesn't even have to be anything thick just a sheet is fine. Apparently having my legs/feet covered makes me invisible to creatures of the unknown. LOL

Good morning gang. It's supposed to be 50plus today which is going to feel like a heat wave. Yesterday wasn't too bad and a lot of the snow/ice melted. We are having a pizza luncheon today for a co-worker who is transferring to our Saugus, MA plant. He's been with us for 6 years and is a really good plant operator so he will be missed. Other than that, it should be another quiet workday.

Good morning everyone. It's warmer than it has been at 35 degrees and is supposed to get to 50 later this week. I'll take it after all the bitter cold we had last week. Did a few things around the house and watched a pretty good movie it is a horror/suspense, but still a good watch. It's called The Gorge and is streaming on Amazon Prime.

Not much going on at work this week which is nice. I have a couple of doctor appointments I have to make for both Irvin and I just normal annual stuff. I do have to contact the local livestock auction to see if there are any special precautions for bringing poultry to them to sell. With the whole bird flu thing going around I'm not sure if it would just be easier to sell them privately or bring them to the auction. This is for my mom as she is thinking about selling off all her chickens/roosters.

QOTD: What is your favorite movie genre? I love all sorts of movies, but I would have to say I watch more horror movies than anything else. Why? I have no idea since they scare the crap out of me. LOL

Good morning everyone. Another week in the books. Woke up with a headache which is odd since I very rarely get them. Took a Tylenol and hopefully that will get rid of it. Today is the last day of the BAU audit. Then a couple of weeks of down time until we have the first of our semi-annual outages.

Not much planned for the weekend. I think I'm going to start getting things ready to plant some veggie seeds so my plants are ready for the end of May to go in the garden.

QOTD: Do you have a favorite family recipe? I have a few, but I think my absolute favorite would my mom's quahog chowder and clam cakes. The quahogs which is a type of hard-shell clam in New England really gives it a great taste.

Good little Friday Eve gang. The BAU audit is going rather well and tomorrow our PM will be made aware of the findings whi*****lude the non-compliance of the daily equipment inspections. Safety is a big thing here and some people just don't get it or care I guess.

I went through some more totes in the basement and threw away some junk. Also, brought some stuff in to work incase anyone wanted anything. Looks like the weather is slowly going to start creeping up to being warmer they are saying almost 50 next week.

QOTD: This question is going to be a bit political, but I honestly want opinions. Do you think SNAP benefits should ban being able to purchase sugary drinks, candy, and other unhealthy foods? I have mixed opinions on this because I feel that all that crap food obviously is not good for kid or adults as we all know this well right or we ourselves wouldn't be on this site. But on the other hand, the cost of good nutritious foods is outrageous and in order for families to be able to purchase those items they would need more in benefits. Not sure what will come of this if they do start to micromanage what people can purchase with government benefits.

Good morning menuer's. We are halfway through the week. I've been trying to find inspirational memes for the week and so far, I seem to be accomplishing that.

I have to meet a lady in a little bit at the end of the access road with some horse tack that she is going to buy. So far, I've been doing pretty decent selling off things I no longer need or use. Still have more stuff to go organize and get rid of.

QOTD: Does anyone hold yard sales or go to yard sales? For years I would have a couple of yard sales each year, but since Covid people have been really odd and would steal stuff even if it was a $1, so I stopped doing them and just sell stuff on FB or craigslist. Sometimes I will go to one if there is stuff I happen to be looking for.

Morning Menu Gang. I'm so over Winter this windchill is not fun at 4am nor is it fun driving and having the wind pull your car all over the place.

Day 1 of the BAU audit at work so far has gone well, but I know he hasn't looked at any of the inspection reports. I may or may not have put a bug in his ear about them. It just gets really frustrating when there are people who just don't do their jobs, and the inspection reports are very important since they are part of our safety program. Other than that nothing else going on.

QOTD: In your travels around the US what is the most unusual animal/animals you have seen? Living in New England my entire life I've seen a ton of wildlife the typical fox, coyote, deer, bobcat, etc. but when we had gone to Florida years ago, I saw two armadillos which I thought was rather interesting and when we went to Texas, I saw a road runner. Of course I had to the meep meep to it. LOL

Good Morning menu gang. The long weekend was nice. Didn't do all that much, but Friday we did have some nice sirloin steaks, white clam chowder, and a seafood boil that we found at Price Chopper. I decided I didn't want to drive to Smithfield, RI to the seafood place so we just went to the Webster Price Chopper they have a pretty decent seafood department considering it's a supermarket.

The snow/ice/rain on Sunday sucked and now the next few days are going to be very cold with high winds.

We have an internal BAU audit that starts at 9am and goes the entire week. The third party guy who does it is the uncle of the vice president of the company. No one seems to think this is an issue, but whatever. The guy is a pain in the butt and nitpicks at the smallest things. Like we have backup alarms on both of the pickup trucks we have and one wasn't as loud as the other one so he put that down as a finding. Anyway it should be a fun week.

QOTD: With Baseball season almost upon us how many of you watch it? I'm honestly not a fan of Baseball I feel like it takes forever to complete a game. I'll watch football and basketball; heck I'll even watch hockey. But I've never been able to enjoy watching baseball. I will root for the Red Sox if they are going against the Yankees in the World Series, but that's about it.

The sun is shining bright today, but it's a bit cold out with the wind. The critters are all fed up and now I'm just going to chill for a bit since we won't be going out until later on this afternoon.

QOTD: Would you own a fully electric vehicle? I've thought about it, but electric in CT is pretty expensive so I would probably go with a hybrid one if we ever get another new vehicle. I'm not against gas/diesel vehicles or all electric vehicles as there is a need for all of them.

It's Friday Eve and I have tomorrow off Woo Hoo. I just got into work due to the icy roads, but they were not as bad as expected. Not a lot going on at work today so I'm hoping for an easy day. When I got home last night, I ended up going through more stuff in the basement and cleaned up April's saddle. Tonight, I plan to clean up her bridle because this Spring/Summer I want to get back to riding.

Irvin asked me what I wanted to do tomorrow, and I told him go to Daily Catch seafood market to get some yummy stuff to make and then I found out one of my friends from HS just opened a bakery down the road from there, so we are going to have to stop in and get a dessert or two. She went to a culinary college years ago and it's always been a dream of hers to open her own bakery. I'm so excited for her.

QOTD: Would you ever want to own your own business like a bakery or restaurant? While I love to cook and bake honestly, I don't think I would want to deal with the public especially nowadays. People are so darn picky and expect things for nothing. Plus, the overhead and everything else that goes with running a business is just something I don't want to deal with.

Happy Hump Day!!! We are all half-way through the week.

My boss asked me to host the 8am call with the other facilities this morning as our OPS Tech was out. That was fun big eye rolls as I just don't like being on camera and this was a TEAMS meeting with the host being on screen the entire time. Have to be a team player, right? A few small things came up at work that I should be able to knock out pretty quickly. We are supposed to get a bit more snow with ice/freezing rain tomorrow so that will determine whether or not I come into work tomorrow.

Other than all that today should be pretty easy day.

QOTD: What's your favorite Ethnic cuisine? Honestly that's kind of a tough one because I really love all types of food even some of the weird and unique things. My top three would be Thai, German, and Mexican foods, but they have to be authentic none of that chain type crap.
