What's on your Monday menu?
Happy Monday Gang. What a great weekend I had. Got a bunch of stuff cooked for the week including the shrimp recipe that is on the main page of OH. Only thing I did different was use shallots instead of the onion. If you guys like shrimp, I recommend trying it out. I also cooked another corned beef, a huge beef brisket which was done in the oven for 7 hours with a French onion sauce/gravy, beef jerky, hard boiled eggs, and then cooked a turkey yesterday. So, we are set with protein for the week.
I helped Irvin with the brakes in the dump truck, but something isn't right because there is still air in them. I did some prepping of raised beds, moved the young egg layers the big coop/run and as you see from above the bean sprouts are doing amazing. I think we can eat them at the end of the week. Oh, and my Wisteria plant gave me some seed pods last year, so I planted what seeds I had and low and behold I have 7 Wisteria plants growing. Very excited about that.
QOTD: If you couldn't drink coffee anymore in the morning what would be your go to drink? Mine would be a nice big cold glass of milk. There is something about cold milk that I love even though I really don't drink a lot of it except in my morning coffee. LOL
B: coffee and 2 hard boiled eggs
L: beef brisket and mashed potatoes
D: Shrimp over tossed salad
30 minutes on the treadmill
Have a great day everyone!!!

Good mornin y'all!
Not a lot planned today...or for this week for that matter!
It was a decent weekend. Rachel stayed the night Saturday night. I sure am happy with my decision not to have kids...LOL. It's just not for me. She turns 14 in early April. She's got attitude in spades. She isn't that bad but she got woken up by Mona and was grumpy. We went and got her a fresh pineapple empanada so she was pleased with that for breakfast(at noon...LOL). I just like her personality though. We stayed up a bit and shared music. She is kind of emo as she puts it. I was too so she liked some of my classics, boy does that make me feel old. Ha!
CGM stuff continues to be a learning thing. It's interesting.
Jennifer I am curious about your recipe for beef jerky. We made some last week that tasted Greta but got rather hard. It's our first attempt so it wasn't too bad. We over dried it. We have a dehydrator. The shrimp I thought looked good! Thanks for the review!
QOTD: if I had to replace coffee it'd be a nice herbal chai tea. Or a peach white tea.
B: breakfast burrito and coffee
L: cabbage and andouille sausage
D: likely leftover cabbage
have a good one everyone!
Mel I get McCormick's grill mates Brazilian Steakhouse mix and add turmeric, cumin, garlic, and onion powder to it. I use it as a dry rub and once I have the beef sliced the way I want it I put it in a bowl with a little avocado oil. Mix the beef and oil then sprinkle the dry rub on it and mix it up good. I usually let it sit for an hour on the counter before I put it in the dehydrator.
I start checking on it after about 5 hours to see how it's coming. Most batches are done in under 12 hours. I find adding the oil helps to keep the meat from totally drying out. I have an Excalibur dehydrator that has different temperatures for different items.
Good morning, everyone!
Jennifer, it does sound like you had a great weekend. We had a fun, too fast weekend as well. Wish I could add another day to it.
Yesterday was the Shamrock Shuffle. I had two goals: don't walk, and finish in under an hour. I finished in about 67 minutes, but didn't have to walk any. The first two miles went fast, but then I felt like I was in slow motion and everyone was running by me. I guess I should not be surprised, I only ran 4 times since early December. Cold climate life.
I am signed up for a 10-k in 2 weeks, so I'm really going to try and make an effort to get out and put some miles in so that it isn't so hard. Two things that I loved: the running gloves that Marilyn gave me for Christmas, and the race had a coupon attached to my bib to gate check a clear plastic bag full of coats, phones, etc.
Other than that, lots of March Madness and we went out to dinner on Saturday.
QOTD: I don't drink a lot of coffee. Clementine flavored Bai is my morning stand by.
Breakfast: Bagel
Lunch: catered
Dinner: Steak
Have a great day, all!

Congrats on the Run. I do not know if I could finish a 5k in 67 minutes at this time, but I think you did great. Congratulations. I lost my running gloves somewhere over the winter and I am not happy. I been looking for them for over a month with no success. Also, I see Sidney Sweenie has a new Bai called Simbu Strawberry. I did not grab one, but I was tempted.

I will have to check out the new flavor. As I got towards 5-k, my legs were saying "Yeah, almost done!" But my brain was saying "two more miles still."

Good morning Jennifer and Menuers,
Wow you did so much this weekend. I was definitely nonproductive myself. I mean I did all my usual, but I did not do any extra. Actually, to the point where I thought I should have at least taken a walk without the dog but chose to watch movies instead. It is still a bit cool here. I rarely drank coffee and my go to drink has always been Coca Cola. Diet Coke for many years. Now it is regular Cherry Coke. But I only drink about an ounce at a time and a 20-ounce bottle does me for a week or so.
Jennifer, you are amazing with everything you get accomplished. I love shrimp so will try that recipe.
Jim, congratulations on your fitness. Long ago, when I ran, I told myself even if you end up walking or come in last, almost nobody else in the world would be able to finish those runs.
Chrissy, it was down in the 30's here all weekend. Also some rain, so great weather for watching movies.
