I don't think it's regional, that's a pretty consistent impression of Subie drivers, lol

Jen
Good morning, everybody!
Well Matt was spot on with his Accuweather forecast. They are saying that we are supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow starting tonight at about 1:00 AM. We are going to have to change some things up today: Marilyn will get at least a few groceries (the stores will be mobbed), I will try and get my Friday gym session in today rather than taking a recovery day, and tomorrow will be a work from home day.
One consequence of the storm will be that my great $35 train savings of 2024 will shrink down to $1.50. Even pre-COVID, I didn't go into the office quite enough to justify a monthly pass. So I've always been a 10 ride pass guy. Little blue punch cards and I could use them as bookmarks after the 10 rides were recorded.
In 2024 they made changes to the fare system. The ticket offices were closed, all sales were made over the Ventra App or vending machines and they discontinued the 10 ride ticket. When I was on the train last Friday, the ticket taker told me to install the App and that I could buy limited January day passes and save $3.50 a day. I thought great, 10 more days in January riding at $3.50 a day will save me $35. That is worth the extra effort.
I installed the App (avoiding the dreaded Apple Store ID), entered in my credit card information, and purchased a pass, i self-punched it into use and was feeling good. I thanked the ticket taker for telling me about the January special and he said "that's great, but you didn't use a day pass." I used a $13.50 pass instead of the limited time $10 January and my $35 savings was now $31.50. Live and learn.
Determined not to make the same mistake again, this Monday I went on the App and purchased 5 January day passes for $10 a day. Which is awesome except that they all expire within 7 days of purchase. We have next Monday off, so it will be 9 days until I use my fourth and fifth January day passes. The $35 was now $11.50. We always re-fight the last war.
And now, with the impending snowstorm, I will not use a day pass on Friday and the $35 will become a net savings of $1.50. At best.
QOTD: I have a 2016 Infiniti QX70. It only has about 73,000 miles on it (see train discussion above) I will keep it until i retire in 2026 largely because there is so much post scuffing that goes on in the garage under my office.

Have a great day, all!

Did you Catch TPIR Nighttime last evening. That woman who bid $44,000 on 2 cars and a trip I could have gone through the TV screen to strangle her. Also, Jen mentioned her Pasty shop and it looks like you're in luck. You can make this your lunch plan while you are there.

If I was going on the show I would make flash cards with car prices on them. You can't study everything but you have to be able to nail the cars, at least directionally.

I have a suspicion that you will survive the ticket price changes! My thoughts and prayers are with you.

It's not the money, it's just that I feel so un-clever after booting every step of this process.
