What's on your Thursday Menu?
G'morning all!
QJB - hate hate hate changing doctors and shopping for a new one. I'm in the market for a local dentist and it's hard to find one when they realize I just use them for teeth cleaning and major works are done by my brother, hence the hard time finding a dentist. Good luck to Grim for his post op appt, and yes it's weird he is just going in for his first follow up. I had mine about a month after surgery and the second follow up in about 10 days.
It's hard to get back into the swing of things, after a couple of weeks being gone. Yesterday I was supposed to pick up Luna from her dog sitter at 9:30 a.m. So I think I can go to Target, get my light weights, go to Trader Joe's and restock the kitchen and then swing by to pick up Luna. After I did the Target run and TJ, all in a span of 30 minutes, I'm ready to order an espresso at starbucks when I realize the main reason I wanted to go to Target was to get dumbbells. Do I have dumbbells? No. What did I get at Target? Other stuff that was not on my list. Head smack, run back to Target, get a 2 lb, 3 lb and 5 lb dumbbell. Still made it to starbucks and in time to pick up Miss Luna. Phew!
Today I am going for my second iron infusion, I sure hope it's not as hard as the first time.
QOTD: I belonged to our local neighborhood gym but during COVID I realized I don't need all those machines. I kept my trainer and bought the weights I needed. I have also had an elliptical in forever. I think the first generation elliptical we bought was before DD was born, so that's 25 years ago.
My meals yesterday:
- Protein coffee
- Ground turkey + Mex cauliflower rice
- Golden berries, Fage yogurt w/Lily's sf choc chips, Protein smoothie
- TJ Shrimp stir fry with veggies
- Cal: 978 Protein: 127 Water: 64 oz
- E: modified weight session Steps:10,851

QOTD- I have a 24 Hour Fitness membership. Sad to say I have not been since Covid. The one that I used to go to I had a really good personal trainer, she eventually left and was doing boot camp classes from her garage. There was only 2 of us so it was good. Unfortunately she committed suicide. I am very intimidated to go to a new gym. I'm not outgoing at all, but I felt comfortable at the other location because I knew quite a few people through my trainer. That location is about 10 miles away there is a closer one but I've never been to it. I will probably skip it until February when the New Years Resolutioners drop out.
I've got work so I'd better get back to it.
Have a great day everyone!

I think the official New Year's quitter date is February 7. That fact sticks in my mind and I forgot the source.

Good morning! Oh no Julia, I am sorry to hear that about your doc. I haven't seen my bariatric surgeons since maybe 2 years post-op? They don't do follow-ups. I just use my PCP as a general doc. I have been super lucky with OneMedical. My company pays for my yearly subscription and I have great luck getting in person and telehealth appts. They spend a lot of time with you, they are ALWAYS on time, and they are a tech company, so it's very app driven and very easy to submit information, request drug refills, etc.
QOTD: I am someone who NEEDS group classes, it's the only thing that motivates me. I used to go to a women's gym in a huge warehouse up the street for HiiT and boxing classes. The owner shut it down :( Then I joined LA Fitness. Then COVID. I went to zoom classes with friends. Then I tried a crazy 30 minute boot camp gym but it was a little too high intensity for my fitness level. Now, my new company pays for ClassPass and I have found Jazzercise. IT IS LIFE-CHANGING! It is so so good, so fun, super high energy, and a mix of cardio, dance, functional movement and strength training. I am addicted. My goal is 3 classes per week plus one class with friends on zoom.
B: Leftover taco meat (this is the end of it)
L: Impossible chicken nuggets
D: TBD - I think I have to pick up my car from the shop FOR A VERY UNEXPECTED AND EXPENSIVE repair. Ugh.
I bought a pass for a Jazzercise class during the summer. It was super fun. It can teach you how to dance also.

Hello OH Friends-
QJB-it is hard to find a new provider that you like and trust. It is somewhat like trying to find a new hairstylist! Does your bariatric surgeon have a recommendation for you? I am going to put the book on my list to read. Sounds fascinating. Thanks for the recommendation.
Overall, things are progressing health wise. I have done 3 hot yoga classes since Friday (Hatha, Vinyasa, and Power). They have gone well, but my balance is off. Especially with transitions due to my drop foot issue. I do notice that my legs are pretty fatigued after the hour class. I have also gone back to the gym to do weightlifting. Currently, I am doing a 30-minute whole body weight circuit since I still have a 20 lb. weight restriction (i do lift more than that on some exercises). I will eventually do a 3-day body part split workout. I am also walking on the treadmill for 25 minutes on the weightlifting days.
Next week I will return to work but from home. Glad to be doing it from home with the frequent trips to the bathroom due to the short bowel syndrome (SBS). I am still dealing with the foot drop but getting better slowly.
QOTD: Yes, I belong to a Yoga studio and Planet Fitness. We do have a full free weight gym in our garage plus a stationary bike and a treadmill at home. I don't know why but I prefer to go the gym to workout.
Meals-I am trying to increase my calories to 3000 since I have lost 7 lbs. since last week when I stopped the IV nutrition. With SBS and the malabsorption you absorb approximately 50% of the calories you take in orally. I am still trying to fine tune the diet to determine what causes diarrhea and what does not.
Have a great day.
