Mornin' All!

well I had to cancel my massage yesterday and spend four hours with my mother in the ER because she was convinced she was going to have a heart attack because her blood pressure was so high. She sent me all of her readings from yesterday (she tests her blood pressure literally like every hour). She said it was fine in the morning (which it was), but then kept increasing as time went on. I told her again that it probably kept going up because she was obsessing over it. Then she said well, she also had this tingling sensation. So I decided I'd better take her in just in case this was the one time there actually WAS something going on. Nope - the ER physician told her from the get go that he thought it was likely anxiety (because that can also cause a tingling sensation), and wondered why she was taking her BP so often. He said twice a week was fine. He also said an occasional high spike was normal and not dangerous - it's continual high readings that they worry about. He said she could go home, but if she'd feel better about having a blood test, he'd order one. Of course she said yes - and of course it was all normal. Honestly, I don't know why I even agreed to take her. She's had every test known to man on her heart (all due to her excessive worrying about it), including a nuclear stress test a few months ago. Everything is always normal. I don't remember her being like this in the past and mentioned that to her. I asked her why she was so obsessed about her health all the sudden - was it that she's getting older (she's almost 90) or...? She said that was possibly part of it. Or maybe being lonely (although she lives in a 55+ apt complex that offers lots of activities for the residents. And they have a coffee shop (the coffee is free - other things they pay for) where a lot of them hang out in the morning - and a dining room (although she's going down there for a lot more meals than she used to, and she always sits with friends), so it's not like there's nothing to do there or no people around. Not sure what to do with her. But if she starts up with this blood pressure thing again, testing several times a day and going into a panic when it starts to get high, I'm going to respond from now on with "STOP TAKING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE!!" The physician even said that if she does get a high reading, to check it again in a day or two - NOT an hour later. Hope all this sinks in, but somehow, I doubt it.

so today I will be going to the public library to print off our financial reports and drop them by our advisor's office since we have our annual meeting with him next week. I also need to do some Christmas cards and go to the grocery store. I have class today at 4:00, but I'm debating whether or not to go. It's the last day, but from what he said on Monday, that they'd be discussing the upcoming final and doing class evals, he may only spend half the time lecturing - so not sure if it's worth my time. But we'll see...

QOTD: definitely vague book posting (I've never heard that term, but I love it!). My sister is famous for that. Even in real life, she's always saying certain things to elicit questions that she wants people to ask. I try to never cave to that - it seems very manipulative to me. Plus why can't she just say whatever is it that's on her mind? I wasn't at all surprised when she started doing that on FB. I just scroll on by..

coffee with half & half

plain skyr with cranberry sauce

protein shake (?)

chocolate cottage cheese 'mousse" with SF whip and raspberries (keep putting this on here but haven't had it in a couple of days)

protein muffin

not sure what we'll have for dinner. We finished off the chicken salad last night. Not sure if I'll have time to cook, so maybe just half a veggie burger and some kind of vegetable

have a great day, everyone!

Good morning! I'm giving myself a D for yesterday. No exercise other than cleaning out the pantry. Great food choices until our little dinner party and then I ate nothing but carbs. And at least one glass of wine too many. Today is a new day and I woke up happy and feeling great so back in the saddle I go. My guest leaves today and I am hoping that helps me get myself moving out the door. It's been a much nicer visit than I thought it would be. I love her dearly, but she's always been very disorganized and her advanced age has not helped. But it's been really great to spend time with her.

Today, I've got nothing on the agenda. So maybe a good walk is in my future.

QoTD: Absolutely everything everyone has already said!!! My one note is I am addicted to the NYT food section. For every recipe I am interested in, I take the time to read the comments. Many are super helpful, like double the garlic or reduce the heat. But many are "Oh I made this and you must (insert 97 recipe changes here) and then it's a good dish". Go write your own recipe.

Food today

B: chicken breast and cottage cheese

L: Deli turkey meat and cheese

D: cheeseburger patty, no bun and 1 hash brown potato patty. Normally there would be tater tots, but I need to clean out my freezer and I found a pack of these breakfast style patties at the bottom. A tots a tot either round or smashed flat, right?

lots of cheese today I see. I'm going to work hard to keep my scale on the counter and not go with eyeballing the portions.

Peace Everybody!

I see those same types of comments on the recipes on Epicurious. "I doubled the sauce, used shrimp instead of chicken, added some lemon juice, left out the mustard, threw in some chopped vegetables, put it in a crockpot for a few hours instead of baking it, doubled all the spices, added some crushed red pepper, and served it over noodles instead of rice". Excuse me but...this is basically a completely different recipe! I think it's doubly weird when they give it a bad review, and then list all the substitutions they made. Sheesh!!

G'morning all!

QOD - Going right for this because I have a lot to say.

Oversharing online: I don't need to know the minutiae of people's private life. I have a "friend" who posts everything on FB. My daughter would tell her to get a journal because sharing every thought that goes through one's head with the universe is not appealing. It's like when you ask somebody how's it going, in a casual way, and they give you a detailed report about their health or lack of it. Jeez I was just asking to be polite.

I know Jen mentioned this but it's also my pet peeve. Following an acct on IG or wherever just to be negative. If you don't like the person or celebrity why do you put so much time in following them and post negative comments. Do you actually think that celebrity will read your comments amongst the 100,000 comments they get? Also, these celebrities get paid for these pics they post, you putting them down for their riches or for flaunting their riches just shows you don't get the whole industry.

JB, I feel like you have opened a can of worm because I got worked up just seeing the qod. I also agree with you about the vague/hint of something. It's like they are waiting for people to ask them what's going on and I do exactly the opposite. I ignore. It's very much like people online that ask for help or advice and finish their post with Go (as in ready, set, go). I was ready to help before that last word but if you think I'll "race" to answer your question, you lost me.

My meals yesterday:

  • Coffee
  • Protein smoothie
  • Tuna, hb egg, quest chips
  • L&F yogurt
  • Barebells bar with tea
  • E: 5 mikes walk

Happy hump day!

OMG, so true and it that reminds me of my mom. She used to describe people like "Oh, she is one of those people that if you ask how they are, they tell you" I never saw a harder eye roll on my mom.
