Good Morning! Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

Well, I worked my ass off again yesterday. I finished baking allllll the cookies, then I finished packing up the individual boxes for each upcoming class. That meant making sure each class had a set of laminated steps & practice sheets, sealed student tools, props, trays, rags, etc. It took me over 12 hours, but I am done and completely organized for the month ahead. I have no idea if that recruiter will ever call, but if they do, I can jump right into the job and do my classes in December, so I am feeling good about that!

Today is all about deep cleaning for company tomorrow and I plan to be at the grocery store at 6am to grab the last few items on my list.

QOTD: Does your family have a unique Thanksgiving food tradition? I grew up in the 70s and weird jello dishes were all the rage at the time. Somehow my mom stumbled on a really good one--it's called "cranberry relish mold" which sounds disgusting, but it's really black cherry jello, cranberry juice, chopped celery, oranges, pineapples, and walnuts. It was always a big hit. Now that she's older and we aren't spending the holiday with the same people she stopped making it. I thought about surprising her and making it this year, but there are only going to be 7 of us this year and I am pretty sure only 3 of us would eat it, so it doesn't seem worth the effort or cost.

Accountability: I really liked DC Girl's idea of paying someone to slap food out of her hands. If I get a fancy high paying job, I might invest in that service.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday! I am grateful to all of you for being an important part of my life :)

Mornin y'all! QJB, glad to hear you got it all done yesterday :o)

I've got the two appointments today and then it is dessert making time. Two pies and a trifle. Oh and the cheese ball needs to be made. We'll set the time line up for when we need to do what this afternoon.

Mona jumped off the couch last night right on to the top of my foot. I now have a bunch of sores on it and it's very sore. I am very very exhausted this morning so I might try laying back down after posting this. I started the belt yesterday and I'm only 8 or 9 inches in. I'm hoping to have time today to work on it but I'm not counting on it.

QOTD: not really unique per se but fried okra. My grandpa had to have it...no if ands or buts. I love it too. BUT we don't fix it a lot any more. My mom and me are the only ones who'd eat it and with all the other options it doesn't happen every year. I think it's pretty common in the southern US.

So sorry about your foot. I tried okra once and stopped after first bite. I did not like the slimy texture. So sorry about Mona jumping on your foot and hope it is better soon.

Good morning QJB and menuers,

Woo! I bet it's a good feeling to not have to worry about cookies for a bit. Grocery stores are nuts. I like your 6am plan.

QOTD - Not that I remember. Biggest thing that comes to mind was always just the kid's competition to find the biggest turkey in the store to feed the family. Leftovers got put out on the porch to freeze.

Today is work and cooking. I've been doing dinners and such and my mom made a request for rice pudding, which I'm happy to make. Looks like Thanksgiving is going to be ham, stuffing, can-berry sauce and finger foods, so I've got that menu planned out. I'll be heading out Saturday night to beat traffic and buffer a bit of Sunday time at home to get things squared away since I leave December 1st for the Galapagos. Woo! Counting down.

Menu today is protein bars, chicken, turkey and cheese on publix bread, boiled egg, whatever I make for dinner.

Cheers!

When I had my black lab, we went to visit my aunt Thanksgiving evening. It actually is the neighborhood I live in now. As soon as we got out the car he took off. I was pissed but he was super smart, and I knew he would come back. I went in and visited and about 15 min in I thought I should go try to track him down. I stood in the driveway calling him and I saw him coming but it was dark so I could not see well. As he approached the driveway and the spotlight hit him it revealed he had a Turkey (fully cooked) in his mouth. That little sucker raided someone polish Refridgerated and brought me a present. Oops.

Same thing happened to me! Years ago, my first house, and it was before leash laws. You just opened the door when he wanted to go out, and let him in when he barked to come in. He was a mutt, but looked like a beagle. He was dragging a frozen turkey behind him. Dragging. It was too heavy to lift.

When I was growing up cats and dogs just ran around the neighborhood like the kids. Everyone know who each one belonged to and they went home when it was time to eat. People walked their dogs and the dogs used anyone's yard to relieve themselves. You needed to watch when walking in the grass, especially if you were barefoot.

If you asked people to pick up dog poop in a plastic bag, they'd have thought you were joking.
