Teenage me did a lot of faking it through. It was a necessary coping mechanism to survive in public-facing roles when you're embroiled in teenage angst. There really is something to be said for saying things until they're true at times. Positive affirmations, right?

I'm sorry it sounds like your board doesn't value you. Hope you're able to find what works for you.

What type of public facing roles did you have? With horrible angst & anxiety as a teen, I did a village committee with appearance requirements, President of Future Business Leaders of America representing my high school, Umpired High School girls softball as their peer, manage a restaurant, etc. I believed the idea if I did it repeatedly, things would get easier. I just wanted to escape constantly. I don't want to do that again.

Wow, you were super active! I can't claim anything so illustrious. That's a lot to take on with anxiety. Kudos.

Before we moved south, I was voted onto the student council and played in band (clarinet). I quit band out of spite for moving. Also won a lot of spelling bees and remember going to state on that. Probably the most nerve-wracking thing for really young me at 9-10.

In high school I was on the debate team, in chess club, drill team, rifle team, and I purposefully joined marine corp ROTC for a couple of years as a way to force myself to overcome some of my social issues. Amazing what a DI yelling in your face can do for you. Tried to join chorus but it was very clique-y and I dropped it in a week. For a while I wanted to go into medicine and took AP classes that bussed us over to Emory. Unfortunately, money, so it wasn't sustainable. There was a free fencing program at the next school over and I competed in a state tournament at 15. That event was by far the worst for being in public...I was shaking the whole time in front of the auditorium full of peoole. Of all those things, ROTC helped the most. No official sports. Like you, it was all an escape.

I also babysat from 13-16 daily after school and I've been working 1-2 jobs since I turned 16. Pizza Hut through graduation, Arby's, (renaissance festival), Kroger, IHOP, etc. Work was necessary because so was money, and they were all customer service-oriented. Didn't leave much time for after school extracurriculars at that point. :) I remember one of my bosses telling me when I was 19 that I didn't have the customer service skills to be promoted. Funny thing...she never got promoted and it wasn't for lack of trying.

For all that, I can at least make small talk with people these days. :) Much less anger and angst but it's sure been a journey!

Good Morning Queen JB and Menuers,

So sorry about the knee. I hope you get relief soon. I hope you can have it looked at.

I did get all my wardrobe organized and we spent 3 hours cleaning all the sawdust from my attic. My ass cheeks are still screaming from being crouched in a 3-foot space for that long. It is done but I am still not happy. The library fundraise was absolutely lovely and fun. I spent a boatload of money, and I did not win one prize. They had a Christian Louboutin purse I had my eye on but to no avail. I am going to post a bunch of pictures of the cookie table.

QOTD: No. Sorry. Not good in my social circle. I am too cynical.

Accountability: All the cookies and chocolate I could stuff in my face plus a full bag on the counter at home. I even ate a bag of the new toasted Vanilla M&M's that is out for Chrismas for breakfast. I really think I am going to be sick here shortly.

Those cookie are to die for. I wanna be your +1 at your future event.
You must be living at the HQ of M&M, I don't even get a tenth of all the flavors you usually post. Our section of M&M at Target looks pathetic.

Back in 2017 or so we went to New York City and went to the M&M store in Times Square. I was expecting to see Oompa Loompas. There were a million kinds of M&M. They were stored in clear plastic tubes that went three stories high. You dispensed whatever you wanted, and paid by the pound.

I have gone to that store in NY. When I see that much chocolate I get overwhelmed and can't choose. I need fewer choices.
