Good morning! I am home! Yesterday was a long 28 hours from wake up call to my front door. But man was it worth it. I texted Jen and told her that I'd been in three airports in three countries (Istanbul, Frankfort and Denver) and Denver was by far the most crazy place. Istanbul however is the most gigantic airport I have ever been to. I think. Hard to tell when I was in Heathrow for just 90 minutes. So much fun was had. So much being spoiled. I do have some fun photos, but I'll wait a few days before I bore everyone with vacay photos. I ate a million new things. I tried a bite of everything I wanted. I walked away from everything that wasn't fabulous. We got routed away from our Jerusalem leg of the journey, inserted a sea day and back to Istanbul due to the war. The cruise line did a fabulous job of making things as good and easy as possible. Sad I missed Jerusalem. Beyond grateful I don't live in the war zones and felt blessed every minute of the day I have the life I have. I exercised lots of days and walked between 10 and 20 thousand steps ever day. SO many wins. I was able to climb to the top of a still mildly active volcano. Only 500 feet of elevation, but mostly on loose volcanic rock. Our calves were feeling it the next day. I ran up stairs and kept up with the tour group leaders. Lots of people on our trip were "elderly" and I had a real hard time not running them over. Some cons to deal with. I got into an argument with a turnstile, and it won. I'm sporting a softball sized bruise on my thigh and a big egg under the skin and I'm having pain down to my knee. That may require I take my own advice and check in with the doc. It happened on day 3 of vacation. I'm up three pounds and expect it to go a bit higher in the next couple days. That just seems to be how my body works. I need to detox from sugar (ate at least one cookie every day and a bite of the dessert of the day) carbs (dammit they were good) and wine. But I'm not saying I'm sorry. Because I truly am not.

QoTD: Not one bit. In fact, I am in a football pool and the only thing I really care about is beating my brother week to week because it makes him crazy.

Food today is in the air because we have literally almost no food in the house. Grocery shopping coming up!

But I'll start with the last pack of chicken breast bites and a bit of cheese for breakfast. By lunch time, we should be stocked up with lots of options. They'll be lots of research on how to make new foods, because I've found a whole new appreciation for the flavors of the areas we visited!

Here's one photo I'll leave you with today. This is us on the Bosphorus sea, docked in Istanbul. I've marked a little arrow to our cabin.

Peace Everybody!

Sounds like an incredible and fun trip! Can't wait for the pictures! I have a ton of Turkish cookbooks because the food is so good. Arabesque by Claudia Roden is beautiful, and Istanbul and Beyond is great too. Whenever I see a new one at the library, I always bring it home for drooling purposes too, lol

I own one of her books - but it covers the whole Middle East. I haven't used it in quite awhile, but I've made some great dishes from it in the past!

Istanbul is a terrific city - I wish I'd spent more time there. A Turkish friend of mine who's back living there (after years of living in the US, then France, then Lebanon) has been bugging me to come and visit her. I just might!!

Yay for being home! Work hard.

Be honest. As a Cubs fan you have to be pretty used to the losing.
