Morning all! Oof, I slept like crap last might. I tossed and turned so much and had the same stress dream about my class this weekend, over and over again. The cats also had a few loud squabbles. I guess today is my beach day so maybe I can nap in the sun :)

QOTD: What is the strangest or funniest news story you've heard lately? In Boston we have an unofficial holiday called "Allston Christmas". The Boston neighborhood of Allston is mostly college students and all the leases turn over on the same day - September 1. That means that students leave alllllllllll their crap on the sidewalks at once. Think hundreds of old nasty couches, broken desks, etc. But one person's crap is another person's treasure, so it's a big crap swap. Last week the police reported that they took 1700 mattresses off the street! Anyway, today we heard that independent filmmakers are making a movie about the holiday--it's about finding love amongst the crap on the sidewalk. Hahahahaha.

Accountability: Good yesterday.

Our European ancestors did not work or sleep in eight hour segments. They slept a few hours when it was dark and got up to care for the crops and animals. Before electricity everything depended on the sun, moon, stars or light from a fire. If it was a cold dark winter day they might feed and water the cows, have breakfast and then go to sleep for much of the day.

Our expectation to work eight hours and sleep eight hours was an outcome of the industrial revolution. It was possible due to electric light being available and because eight hour shifts are convenient for factories. Also coffee played a big role in staying awake when the body wants to sleep.

My father was born in 1905 in Ireland. He did not experience electricity until he came to America in 1926. He saw it as a creation of the devil. He worked in the steel mills and they demanded twelve or more hours of work a day. People were so tired that they spent their non-working hours asleep.

I think sleeping a few hours during the night and then having a nap on the beach is an ideal sleep arrangement. When I am not working a eight hour day, I am up during the night and nap in the afternoons. When I am commited to a time for work, then I have to try to go to bed at midnight and get up at 8 AM or 10 PM til 6 AM or whatever corresponds to when I need to be available for work.

Enjoy the beach and make sure you use plenty of sunscreen. Also set a timer for that nap. I have experienced some bad sunburn napping on the beach. I do it but with sunscreen, shade, and a clock.

I have never been a real good napper (my mother lamented since my older sister was a great napper as a baby). The only time I really nap is if I am sick or when I worked night shift. I do think that people function better with consistent sleep through the night. Maybe not 8 hours as each of us have different requirements body wise. But we still need to complete a full sleep cycle with the important REM sleep.

Morning, QJB! Notice the missing "good" there! I just woke up out of a dead sleep yelling "**** god damn morherfuc*er!" (Very alarming to DH and me, both) because in my dream I had a very bad calf cramp and it turns out I had one in real life too!!! It finally waned and my one brain goes "oh you probably need potassium, maybe eat a banana" and the other brain goes "you have DVT, the clot will hit your heart any minute now. Or, it's leg cancer". Brains.

QOTD: ok this is going to sound so petty and small, but each day while I get my day started, sifting through emails and organizing for my meetings, I have a small tv in the office that plays the Today Show. It's fluffy mostly with some news sprinkled in. For the last 10-14 days the main hosts were all off. One would think "end of summer vacation" but the tabloids were reporting that they were all out, and it was a MAJOR shakeup. I feel like I have my morning coffee with Hoda and Savannah everyday so I was a little distraught. Well, they're all back. Maybe it was vacation, maybe it was salary negotiations, but from 7-8, all is right in my world again. Minus the snapped calf muscle lol

My first day of work was fab. I made the right choice.
B: leftover tuna with pimento cheese. This was tasty!

L: salad with hard boiled eggs and chicken

D: tbd. Something from hello fresh.

Assuming I don't meet my demise today, have a most wonderful mid week day!

Fun fact: potatoes have much more potassium than bananas. And cramps can be more about electrolytes in general than anything else. You should keep an emergency medical bag of chips next to your bed in the event of night time cramps.

Medical bag of chips - I like the sound of that! I made Kris smashed potatoes for dinner last night - maybe I'll snag one!

Water. If I am not getting enough water I get muscle cramps.

Yikes, sorry about the leg cramp. I tend to get them bad when my iron is running low. Take care!

Ugh, that is not a good way to wake up. Maybe this is your brain saying "don't be chained to your desk and move around" (it's not let cancer, lol)
