Good morning ~ Yay for all your papers being done! That has to be a great feeling. I'm struggling a bit at work with the boss on vacation and lots of things popping up I've never done before, but figuring things out is what I do. It's sort of fun. The repetitive discussions with my trainee are not. I feel like we have the same discussions over and over like they never happened. She presents things as brand new information when we have already discussed the issue ad nauseum and come up with solutions, or are waiting for further answers... I know she is only 2.5 months in and it's a lot, but she seems so disorganized and it's driving me crazy.

QOTD - I'll be in hell with the other sinners

B- coffee, cottage cheese

L- chicken shawarma and greek salad w/kiddo - he had to cancel on me yesterday after all

d - chili dog no bun

s - tomatoes, carrots

Have a great day!

Ugh...that's a lot to deal with. When I see that with some of my newbies, I ask them to bring their notes so we can go over them together...and invariable they don't take notes/good notes...then I get more remedial and say thing in the meetings like "are you writing this down", "can you walk me through it before you go". Sometimes if they are young in their career that helps....sometimes if they are more set in their ways, it becomes the basis for a performance discussion. Never fun though.

My personal criteria is that it take six months for a new team member to truly be up to speed. I insist on notes and have helped them to create their own personal training manual with step by step instructions for some tasks. Then when something is wrong we can pinpoint exactly what and when it went south. Of course, I would get accused of micromanaging but I would get things accomplished correctly and on time. I will micromanage for a time, then expect the person to self manage.

Sorry Amy! I dealt with that training situation when one of new hires started last year. She ended up being switched to another department after about three months. She just couldn't absorb it. I think we live a pretty parallel work environment a lot!

Sometimes being a people leader isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sounds like that's more the case, lately. Hope it all clicks for your newbie...sooner rather than later.

Happy Not Quite Friday!

Today is new bandsaw day! I have to drive up to bring it home later this morning, and somehow get it in the cellar. It's 6-1/2 feet tall and about 440 pounds. Anyone want to pitch in? PP, you like a good workout.

QOTD: I'm not sure I've done anything good enough to get into heaven. I know for certain I've never done anything to deserve hell.
