The Trial of Lizzie Borden is a really good recounting of the trial, the communities at the time. It's by Cara Robertson. Last time I checked, the Lizzie Borden house is a bed and breakfast.

I've seen it, many times. Never stayed there though.

Mornin' Weekenders!
I never got around to posting yesterday - too many things to do. But my mother did her special way of reminding me this morning that she needs me to get groceries for her (like I forgot? Ah ...no), which I'd already planned to do anyway. So there's that - plus a couple of other things. Weather looks much better today, so maybe I'll get out and walk or bike today, too.
I went to see "Barbie" yesterday with a friend. I liked it, but not enough to see it again. But it was very creative and a lot of fun.
QOTD: I decided to get a new Kitchenaid stand mixer since the head on mine is loose (it shakes while it's mixing anything - evidently a common problem as they get older), and I have a chopstick holding the stem of the head on, since the metal rod fell out at one time and I couldn't get it back in. I thought I'd get one that is better for kneading bread dough, since the more basic models "walk" on the counter while working with stiffer doughs. The mid-range ones are pretty expensive, but I read the certified refurbished models are just as good, and about half the price. And they're warrantied, too. So I ordered one. It's supposed to arrive on Monday.
B: protein pancakes topped with plain skyr and strawberry compote. Coffee with half & half
L: the other half of the grain bowl I got yesterday (at lunch - was at a restaurant with a friend)
AS: protein shake
D: black bean dal and bagged salad
have a great day, everyone!

Ah, the Kitchen Aid. I was researching stand mixers this week and it still seems to be the standard. I had one 10+ years ago given to us by my partner's parents for Xmas. I wasn't doing much cooking at the time but they had a habit of giving one expensive gift per year, and that was it. Wish I'd have kept it but it would have been through three moves by now.
Hope you enjoy your new mixer!

Good morning! Mel, I saw that meme last week and felt like it fit us so perfectly. We've given up so much, how much more can we give and still find joy in our food?
I had a good Friday. Roger's doctor appt turned out just fine. We had a mini scare where our optometrist mentioned that he has age related macular degeneration. And I was freaked out. But no, he does not. He has the beginnings of a cataract and a different issue, but both can be resolved easily with surgery when and if needed. Also, he's a short year or two away from qualifying for not only hooded eye surgery but also a muscle lift so in the future Roger's going to get a free mini face lift and I'm thinking I'm a little envious of that. I was ON POINT on the food and exercise yesterday and ate a perfect dinner and no snacks. But then my girlfriend and I got into the wine last night, and got a little carried away. So I lost all my brownie points for the day...and maybe even the week. I'd been doing so well up to then.
Today we are seeing the the Broadway performance of Tina Turner and I'm very excited to see it. Then dinner at one of my favorite places that has lots of street taco size options. I'm not seeing a lot of exercise in my day, but I will work in my PT required stuff.
QoTD: I got an adorable cotton dress for my trip on clearance for $10. It will be real cute with little tennies which is my whole dress theme for this trip.
Menu
B: egg and slice of bacon
L: chicken bites and a pack of pretzel cheese whisps
