I always thought raisins were some sort of punishment. My mom tried to convince me to eat them, though I never saw her eat one. I told her they put them in those teeny tiny cardboard boxes because no one would eat a larger box.

They just have such a weird, gross texture in your mouth. Like dehydrated elephant snot.

I don't understand why oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are not a thing in stores. I love oatmeal cookies, but not raisins.

I hate raisins. I make oatmeal cookies with butterscotch chips. You know, just mixing it up.

Someday I hope to meet a man who bakes oatmeal cookies. For some reason I have never baked good cookies. Once my son came home from school and said that all the mothers needed to send cookies the next day and asked if I would buy some at the bakery.

Funny story. My grandma had come back from US, I was around 6 years old. She brings back a box of Quaker oatmeal. We didn't know what it was. So she says this a nutritious meal and we will make this for breakfast. My brothers were 2 & 3. The next morning she makes the warm concoction that she had learned to make while in US visiting my uncle, and serves it to us. We say what is this called? She says Quaker. Since then oatmeal for me is called quaker, you know like tissues and Kleenex? Anyways, back to the story. We tasted it and gagged. We never went close to that thing ever again. She couldn't pay us to eat that warmed yucky stuff. My dad had a very pejorative name for that thing that I won't repeat.

So yeah, that was my one and only experience with oatmeal until 3 weeks ago. I do like oatmeal cookies though.

Lol, that's funny. I used to love oatmeal made in milk, with sugar and butter, with some raisins and cinnamon. So basically, an oatmeal cookie in boiled vs baked form.

She tried: butter, cinnamon, homemade jam! Nothing worked for us. The look of it was truly disgusting to us and the more she added stuff the worse it got.

I was in Ireland and my aunt insisted that I bring back Irish oatmeal for my mom. I carried that damn bag of oatmeal around England and Ireland for two weeks. On the plane back I realized that I should not be bringing it into the country but took a chance and did not declare it. I was one person in line from having my luggage inspected. So did not get caught.

A few weeks after I got home I asked my mom if she liked the Irish oatmeal and she said it was OK, but she preferred the oatmeal that she bought in Ohio from the Amish.
