Mornin' All!
well tonight my plane leaves for Copenhagen! I'm flying out of Chicago (as I always do for international flights now). I missed a connection once to Paris (connection was in Newark) because of a delayed first leg out of Milwaukee, and it was in the days before cell phones, so it was kind of a pain letting my friend who lived in Paris know what was going on. Now I go for direct flights - or else flights that connect in Europe (so that if i miss a connection, there's likely to be others between the European cities later that same day). So I go to O'Hare as those flights are much more common there. I'm taking the bus down there - and probably one later this morning since DH will want to go to the hospital to see MIL. That's fine - I can walk the halls at O'Hare to get in some exercise.
re: MIL. They weren't able to do the surgery yesterday (partial hip replacement) because her CO2 level was too high, despite being on a BiPAP for several hours. They told her that sometimes it takes a couple of days with COPD patients, but hopefully she'll be able to do it today. If not - so be it. She was already talking to DH yesterday about hospice, what kind of urn she wants, etc. I'm glad she letting him know all this stuff as they should be having this conversation at some point anyway, but I think getting obsessed with this now is a bit premature, and probably making her anxiety worse. She may be totally fine and ready for surgery today or tomorrow. So...fingers crossed.
in other news, the air quality here, which has been bad for at least a couple of weeks, was absolutely terrible yesterday, and promises to be so today as well. I'm usually not that affected by this kind of thing, but I sure was yesterday. I woke up with a terrible headache this morning, which is probably due to it, too. I was hoping to get some relief from this while I'm in Europe, but I read it's blowing over there now. Crap.
QOTD: well there's this DM/MIL thing that's been going on for months (and more intense MIL stuff now). No way to put a positive spin on it, but I've managed to be realistic and not let myself stress over it. Just rolling with the punches...
B: skyr with fruit, coffee with half & half
MS: protein shake
L: I'll be either on the bus to ORD, or at ORD. I have plenty of snacks - in fact, I went overboard. Protein bars, peanut butter crackers, individual bags of nuts. So something from my snack pack.
AS: ditto
D: ditto (no meals on Icelandair - it's a budget airlines)
I know it's not Friday, but I wanted to post this. My 18-year-old kitty used to love to play fetch with us all the time when he was younger. Hasn't done it in years. But two nights ago, he found a ball somewhere and wanted me to throw it to him. He ran to get it, jumped back on the bed, and wanted me to throw it again. Rinse and repeat. He must have done this 20 times. I was so amazed he remembered this game, and that he was even doing it in the first place (because of his age and arthritis). My vet, whom he saw yesterday for a routine exam, was also amazed!) (he still used the pet stairs to get up on the bed, though - but that's OK!) (and PS - my room isn't always this messy!!! Packing. Plus lots of books to return to the library - plus a bunch of cookbooks to put back where they belong. I'm on it!)

Man, I hope they're able to figure out next steps for your MIL, and hopefully she has a will already detailing what she would want to happen. Or makes one soon to take that stressor out.
Your plane comments remind me of how much more sensibly European airlines operate. Boarding by rows from the back so people don't clog up the aisles. Ahh. Hope you have safe, expedient travels and a wonderful time in Europe!
Cute kitty!

My 18 year old cat sometimes has days when she is able to jump on the couch and I praise her for that, but she never is interested in playing anymore. I think the greatest cat toy ever invented is called da bird and she wore out several of those in her younger days.
I am the oldest of 13 siblings. One brother died at 41 and is buried with my parents. There are four plots there. A few years ago we had a family meeting and decided that one of my sisters is the healthiest and probably most likely to live the longest. So she is going to collect everyone's ashes and after everyone is gone put all of them in that last plot. Instead of an urn we are thinking about a Chock Full O'Nuts can like the movie Bucket List. Probably would not work with your MIL but joking about these things can really relieve the tension. That probably will not really happen but we understand that death is a reality and we can all joke about it.
Enjoy your trip and let the doctors worry about your MIL. I can't wait to hear all about it and see pictures.

Have a good trip, and I'll swing a chicken for your MIL.

Good Morning! Productive days always feel great! I am still in the midst of some projects and of course a few meetings.
QOTD: My MIL has some things with her house that she'd like to get taken care of, mostly some overgrown bushes and painting some of the exterior. It's been good to see her wanting to improve things and putting in some of the work as she is able.

G'morning all!
Guys, look look look. OH members in their natural habitat!
It was great to see DCgirl again and meet her adorable mom. We had a lovely time having lunch with the view of the ocean and eating yummy fish. Then we went into town and just walked around on the Main Street. Half Moon Bay during the weekend is a bustling little coastal town, but on a Tue afternoon with drizzling fog there weren't many people around. We still went into all the open stores, I smelled all the soaps and candles I could put my hands on, and we had a great coffee afterwards; double espresso for me, decaf latte for Em! I was trying to convince Em's mom to get a pastry so I could have a bite but she didn't go for it. Somehow I thought my power of persuasion is stronger, but I think it only works with my husband.
QOTD: my BIL has been a PIA to my husband by acting childish and cutting all communication. The silver lining for me is we no longer have to put up with his passive aggressive attitude. I know DH is sad about the situation but we are being positive that maybe this is what BIL needs to live his life.
My meals yesterday:
- Coffee
- Chicken skewers, tomatoes, mini cucumbers
- Prawns stuffed with lump blue carb, wrapped in smoked bacon, with a side of sautéed Italian chard
- Fage yogurt w/Blue berries
- E: cardio + weight, 1/2 hr HIIT
Happy hump day!
