I am at the point in the book where they are just meeting each other. Because it is a novel, not sure yet how much is fiction and how much is fact. I had no idea that there was a restaurant. After visiting the Rockies and Colorado, I plan to do a lot of reading about the area and come back for more visits. I did so much traveling for years, but almost always business related and traveling for pleasure is sort of a new experience for me, especially since no husband or kids now to consider. Just my cat and I have a sitter for her.

Good morning everyone.

We had very severe weather in our area last night. It didn't touch Amarillo but a town the the NE of us, Perryton, wa**** by a tornado. They are saying 3 dead and 2 missing...up to 100 injured. It's a town of a little over 8,000 people so this is just so sad. We were watching the news and they had a chaser see it happen which means they had it on tv live. It's just devastating.

I am feeling like a plain ol' pile of crap. So far the itching isn't bothering me but I just feel so tired and sore. I can barely walk right now which is a little scary for me. Today we are going to go out with my aunt so it will be a tough day for me.

QOTD: nope

my pics are of a dreamcatcher I made a few years ago and of course Opal.

I would like to buy that dreamcatcher or one like it. Is there a way to have some blue on one?

Mornin' All!

I'm tempted to stay off sites with new post-ops who think they know everything. Yesterday - again - someone posted on my clinic's FB page something about having "dumping syndrome" because she sometimes gets nauseated or gets sick after eating. I explained what dumping is, only to be blasted by a gang of other newbies. I decided not to get into it with them, and simply posted a page from the Mayo Clinic's Web site that explains what dumping is and how to prevent it. I guess these know-it-alls can take it up with the Mayo Clinic. Sheesh. Anyway, I'm out of this. I wish the dietitians at my clinic would monitor the page more and correct misinformation because these people would probably believe them over me, but I guess the dietitians are too busy to be on there regularly (they're members of the group's FB page, but I don't think they get on it a lot, unfortunately)

Nothing scheduled for today so I'm going to try to get a lot of things knocked out. Both my summer classes (both online) posted their "stuff" on Canvas yesterday. The anthropology class (taught by world famous John Hawks - I'm so excited to finally be able to get into one of classes!) posted everything, since he'll be in South Africa working on his research most of the summer, so I'll be able to get ahead with readings and lectures before I leave for Scandinavia. The other class, a sociology class called "Framing Fatness", did post an intro video and the syllabus, but it looks like she's only going to "unlock" the other things (the lectures and readings) the week that we'll be working on them - so I won't be able to get ahead. But that might be fine as long as I'll be getting ahead on the anthro class.

QOTD: nope. We never had any Mother's Day traditions, either.

B: plain skyr with strawberry compote, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: steel cut oats topped with plain Greek yogurt and blueberries (and maybe a little SF syrup if it needs it)

AS: I have nothing written down now because I'll be up close to my calorie limit with everything else (although a L&F yogurt would work), but if I go biking today (I probably will), I can probably manage a protein muffin, at least.

D: zucchini dal (was going to make this yesterday but was too exhausted after 1.5 hours sleep, a 10-mile bike ride (very short for me - but a lot when you're functioning on no sleep), and a long, exhausting afternoon with my mother who was shoe-shopping (she tried on half the shoes at the store and left with nothing, which means she'll want me to take her to another shoe store today or this weekend - UGH!!)

have a great day, everyone!

I am with you on the FB page for my clinic too - most of them are less than 3 months. It makes me cringe the things they say and encourage. I once replied to a 'when can I eat popcorn?' from a 3 week post op person. I posted about the honeymoon/slider food/slippery slope, but it was drowned out among the pro-popcorn people.

Nothing is more truthful than the old saying "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink". Banging our heads against the wall to try and explain to those who do not want to hear is a waste of time and talent. Try once, maybe even twice if you are a sadist and sit back and watch them learn the hard way. Good for you for stepping away.

Now, I feel the opposite of that old saying. If the horse doesn't want to go, they just won't budge. You can't necessarily lead them anywhere. But if you get them to water, they'll drink. No horse is dumb enough to die of thirst so they'll win a standoff with a human.
