What's on your Memorial Day menu?

The eastern US has its beauty for sure, but I'd stake the western part against any place. I've been to 7 continents and I still thing Glacier is the one of the most beautiful places but I am a western girl at heart!

QOTD- I got nothing.
I'm working today since I don't get paid if I don't work. I have a ton to do and need to get it done quickly.
I did nothing this weekend, watched a ton of TV and felt totally overwhelmed by all of the things that I need to get done. But didn't manage to do any of them. My roommate is in Salt Lake City so I've been alone all week.
There was an intruder in a close neighbors house in the middle of the night. I haven't heard how they got in, but probably an open window or sliding door. I never leave windows open at night. I have cameras so I'm probably not a target. But it does worry me a bit being by myself.
Have a great day everyone!

the majority of burglaries are crimes of opportunity, so if house #1 has all its doors and windows locked, most burglars will just move on to house #2 (not always - but in most cases, yes). So yea - the neighbor may have left a window open or a door unlocked. Also, most burglaries happen during the day when people are at work - which I'm glad for because I think I'd have a heart attack if someone got into my house in the middle of the night! (happens, of course - but most burglars would prefer you not be home)
also, cameras do help - and having lights on. We keep lights on at our entrances all night (and they're not bright enough to bother our neighbors, because you have to be cognizant of that...), but those motion-detector lights are good deterents, too. We also have fake security stickers on our doors and windows that I got through eBay or Amazon. I don't know how much of a deterent those are, but I suppose a non-"professional" burglar might not want to take the risk, and just move on to the next house.
When I started living alone I had cameras and a security system installed. I also sleep with a loaded handgun in the bedside table. I do know that there is a risk that the intruder would get the gun from me and use it against me. My plan is to crouch down in the corner next to the bed and use the laser pointer on the gun to find their chest/heart. I feel if they get past my locks, cameras and alarm system, I am justified in using force to try to stop them. But I hope that never actually happens. I would never leave a door or window open at night intentionally.
Real life begins where your comfort zone ends
After my divorce I put an alarm system in. Yes, it was pricy, but the house is big, and I worked weird hours, often staying up late at work. I didn't want to surprise a intruder at home, or be surprised by them when I was sleeping. I had a cleaning person once a month to help me organize the house after I kicked my ex out. But...after every visit I found a window or 2 unlocked. After 2 visits I told her I no longer needed her. I wasn't sure if she left it unlocked by accident or on purpose. She was dusting the windows, but it was weird feeling to find some easy accessible windows unlocked. She knew I was living alone and I had an alarm. But I only arm the perimeter at night, since I slept downstairs.
After that - I moved my bedroom upstairs and I would arm the whole alarm. And I. Got a gun. Just in case.
