Actually, I believe Grim may actually be a Great Depression child. He did just use the words hooey, hokum, and balderdash.

Ha! I got my new travel salt shaker the other day. It's about the size of a Tic Tak container. So if I add some at the counter, I can use my own shaker halfway down.

Mornin' all!

well I spent most of yesterday evening at the ER with my mother. She has one of those home blood pressure machines and I swear she checks her BP about 20 times a day (sometimes I think it goes up because she checks it and stressed out about the numbers, which just makes it go up more). Anyway, she called an ambulance because her BP was high, and half of her face was feeling flushed, so she thought she was having a stroke plus a heart attack (OK - she's a hypochondriac - I've known that for awhile). Her BP was high, but not crazy high, and they told her the flushing was probably just from the elevated BP. They gave her a low dose BP pill and kept her there for three or four hours to make sure her BP didn't get too low, then they let us go home. This is getting really old. I wish I could get her to move into a place where she'd get more assistance (not necessarily assisted living, although that wouldn't be a bad idea - but at minimum, an independent living place where they have "services" - where someone just pops their head in every day to see if you need anything. They have nurses and/or CNA's on the premises all the time, so someone would be around if she started freaking out about her health again. But I know she really loves her current place, so it'd be really hard to get her to move. Anyway, that was my evening.

I started watching "the Whale" before my mother called about her "stroke" and "heart attack". My MIL had borrowed it from the library and was done with it, so she thought I might like watching it (i guess she thought I could relate to it, being a former SMO person). I only saw about 30 minutes of it before I had to go to the hospital - but yea, it seems exploitative, as some of you said. Not sure if I'll watch the rest or not.

I have a pedicure scheduled for later this morning (haven't had one since the fall) and since I'm over age 55, I also get a free facial (some deal they have for us oldsters on Wednesdays - guess it's a slow day...). Terrific. I'd never pay for a facial, but hey - it's free! Other than that, I'm continuing to work on decommissioning that server I mentioned since I'm running out of time to do it.

QOTD: my hair is so dry that I only wa**** twice a week. It never really gets dirty, it just gets flat after a few days, so I wa**** to poof it out again. So different from when I was a teen and young adult and had to wa**** every day!

B: meal replacement shake, coffee with half & half

L: chocolate "mousse" with raspberries

AS: bagged salad, thing of Ratio yogurt

D: I made this fantastic penne with pistachio/basil pesto last night (Christopher Kimball's recipe) - but it's so caloric (440 kcal in a cup of it) that I had to figure out how to fit it in calorie-wise. But - this should work. At least it has a lot of fat in it - I had some around 5:30 last night, and it kept me satiated all night.

have a great day, everyone!

That must have been very scary for your mom, I hope now that they've connected the elevated Bp and the flushing for her, it won't reoccur.

I wonder if your mom is the kind of person who (if there) would tell the assisted living person who checks in on her that she's fine....and then calls you. She does seem to have some curated options now and still defaults to you, like the driving to appointments. Glad it was a relatively quick turnaround in the ER for her.

Hope you enjoy your pedicure and facial! And get some kind of relaxation.
