Teenie told me about it last year at OH conf. And I told her I would park myself by one of the tables and not move at all. I'm not joking when I say that is my version of heaven. What a fun way to celebrate, and also so much work to bake all those cookies. Because I'm sure nobody just picks up a tray from their closest grocery store to bring to these parties.

My family sets up cookie baking days with assembly lines. For my brother's wedding, we invited his future wife's sisters and aunts to join in our cookie baking. They declined saying that their family did not eat cookies. At the wedding, we observed them piling their plates and take home containers high with the cookies that that family did not eat.

Are they still married?
Because I would have stepped up and said very sweetly, "oh bless your heart, I thought you guys didn't eat cookies. Let me take these off your hands, you don't need to help out with the cookies. Any left overs and we'll donate them to a couple of shelters."

I would have loved to see you do that. They are still married. That wedding was about 1991. Their kids are in their 20's and will probably be getting married in the next few years, so it could be payback time when they ask for wedding cookie help.

I had to know more about cookie tables. This article explains it well and mentions your town too. Funny thing they say it's originally an Italian tradition, while I have never seen anything like this in Italy. It's a great tradition and now I'm hoping my daughter marries somebody from Pittsburgh!!

I have no idea, but it could be a tradition that started here, among Italian immigrants. There are a lot of Irish "traditions" here in the US that have absolutely no roots in Ireland.

Like St Patrick's Day parades, corned beef and cabbage and the wearing of the green. Although I think they do that now in Ireland for the Americans. But in my family St. Patrick's Day in Ireland was about going to church and saying prayers.

I can ask my SIL if she has younger single male cousins, her family is delightful, so welcoming and would be a fun one to join.

If I ever told my daughter this convo, she would say thanks mom, selling me for cookies.

That's the dream right there. When mine was a teenager, I'd give cookies to whoever took her away.
