Looking into weight loss surgery options, considering lap band but unsure. Co-worker suggested duodenal switch due to high weight. I don't know what to do

Do not do the lap band. Had one and it was torture ended up getting encased in scar tissue and had nothing but issues. I revised to the bypass.

For you I would suggest either the bypass or DS. If you choose the DS please make sure you find a doctor who is knowledgeable in that procedure. Some doctors try and give a modified version that may not give you the best results and could cause problems down the road.

I don't think lap-band is done that often anymore given all the complications. Do your research, make sure you know what your insurance will cover and then talk the providers that are available to you. Everyone's ideal surgery may be different.

The Lao band is not a good option since it has many side effects with slippage that causes other problems. Sleeve, RNY are the most popular choice but that is a decision best made with your surgeon based on your history.
