My folks always kept bacon grease in a can in the fridge, and used it for frying eggs, etc. Then they started making the "cans" out of plastic.

I had to buy a lidded metal container to pour drippings, so they don't go down the drain. When it gets full, it gets emptied in the trash.

My mom used Crisco instead of bacon grease for frying things. I think she just put any bacon grease in a can and threw it away. Strangely enough I don't remember having bacon at home much as a child.

I used to use a disposable container with a lid and keep in the freezer until garbage day. My family never cooked with it. My husband's family did and had a lot of heart attacks at young ages. Now I buy precooked. I heat one or two slices in microwave and never deal with bacon grease

For about three years, I stayed very involved. Attended all workgroups and helped with getting people ready for surgery. Also took part in a group to help people with regain. That was particularly depressing as I realized that they expected the surgery to do the work for them and had no interest at all in changing their eating habits. They would stop at the Dairy Queen for a milkshake because that was easier than mixing a protein shake. But they did not understand why they did not lose weight.

My program has an awesome dietitian who is practical and helpful. Anyone who works in the office attends yearly conferences of American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery

When I stopped attending monthly meetings, I still saw the surgeon and dietitian yearly. I just got involved in other things and stopped going to meetings. I ended up getting support here and also from Weigh****chers. It would not be sustainable for me without support.

Good morning and good job JB on remembering the cookie class. I have been staycationing with my bestie the last week. We have been friends since the 2nd grade but haven't lived in the same city or state since the 8th grade. We live a 1000 Miles apart but still get together at least 2 or 3 times a year for a week or so. She is like a sister and also part of the beach week group. We walked the beach yesterday at dawn. Too cold to go in the water for us. We save y hat for August when the surf is 85 degrees.

QOTD. I see the surgeon every 3 months. Now that I am at almost 2 years it will be six months. He doesn't have a nutritionist in the office, but we have virtual group meetings available. I only did the one that was required prior to surgery. I like my surgeon and he is always available. We had a lot of written guidance. I only had to wait 2 weeks to surgery, there was no requirement to lose any weight. I did it under medicare so other than getting psychological, cardiac and pulmonary clearance there was no other things to do. The office staff arranged for that before I even saw the surgeon. There is a nutritionist at my primary care office, she is also 95 pounds and a vegan. She does not approve of WLS.

Menu: Orange, banana and protein shake. Left overs after that. The fridge is full of styrofoam "doggie bags" from various restaurants.
