are you talking about FamilyTreeDNA? I just checked. There's an on/off switch for investigative genetic genealogy in the account settings - the privacy & sharing section. I've been in FamilyTree since 2015, I think - so that was before all this came about, too.

I"ve also been in GEDmatch since about then. I remember logging in one day and was asked if I wanted to be in or out.

update: just checked GEDmatch. Took me forever to find where to turn it off or on. If you click on the pencil icon next to your kit number, it'll open a preferences page and one of them is for opting in/opting out

One of the papers I wrote in college was on persecution and since I'd been down a genealogy rabbit hole, I did pick Irish persecution to research. There were a ton of cartoons like this, some references to signing that Irish need not apply, and some other events that all make me sad for humanity. We'll find ways to drive at our differences rather than embracing our humanity. I've been through some eye-opening racial equity summits, too. History is rife with our rejection of differences. Phew, Friday soapbox!

One of my favorite museums in NYC is called the Tenement Museum. It's a real row of tenement apartments on the Lower East side which has housed the poorest classes in NYC throughout history. They have uncovered the real histories of the people who lived there and recreated their lives and their apartments--from the Eastern European Jews who were sewing clothing, to the Irish working class, and everyone in between. They have some great online programs since COVID. I think you'd love it!

The Italian immigrants also experienced this persecution upon coming to America.

Those are some wonderful appetizers. You can bring them anytime.

My DNA tests came back 100% Irish. You would think somewhere through the years, someone would have fallen in love with someone from another nationality. I also laugh about having to admit that I really am related to all those hard-drinking, partying Irish people who seem so different from me. I used to wonder if I was really adopted but the DNA matches them. There will be some great partying today. On March 17, 2020 the police arrived at my sister's pub to shut them down due to COVID. I am glad that won't happen today and the Guiness will be flowing until 2:30 AM closing time.

Boston has a big parade today, and liquor stores have to close at 4pm, and bars at 7:30. The city learned this lesson the hard way.

My sister's pub is in Wilmington, NC. The last time I was there for St. Patricks Day, I ended up driving a drunk guy home so he would not get a DUI, then got back to a drunken fight at her house that was so bad I packed up and spent the rest of my trip in a hotel. Boston knows what it is doing.
