Ok not so worldly American here. I got a question. What is Mince? And congrats on the MBA acceptance. Lots of things changing for you. This sounds fantastic.

My father loved mincemeat pie. But I think, around here, it stopped being actual meat a long time ago. It's one of those things I always meant to look up, but I always lost interest first. It's not like I'd be willing to eat it.

My FIL use to tell a story about visiting a friends house when he was younger. The mom offered mincemeat pie, he enthusiastically said he loved it. She gave him a huge slice but it turned out it was the meat kind with venison. He said he gagged it down to be polite. He was expecting the fruited mincemeat pie.

That's on the long list of things I have googled because of the perception of eew, meat in pies. Nonesuch mincemeat does have a meat-related ingredient far down the list. In history, they were meat pies that had fruit in them...hundreds of years ago. I don't remember the why it evolved into a fruit pie, but yep.

My father's family made a dressing out of the turkey giblets and livers, it was mixed with ground beef and there was raisin, cinnamon and bread stuffing in it. When dad passed both my brother and I tried to mimic it with what we thought were the ingredients but never got it even close. It used to be my favorite part of Thanksgiving.
