What's on your (PHOTO) Friday Menu?
Mornin' All!
well part 1 of the Hindu wedding yesterday was just great! I'm so looking forward to part 2, although they're having it at the convention center downtown, and it'll be American food instead of Indian. Boo! The bride said they do make Indian food there if requested, but it isn't very good, so the couple just decided to do American food instead (the bride was born here in the US and has always lived here - the groom was born in India but has lived in Brooklyn for the last few years) (see where my head is - a giant, fun party - and I'm totally focused on the food!). The food at the temple yesterday was catered by one of the Indian restaurants in town, and it was great!!
Today I have a doctor's appt at 11:30 for another blast of liquid nitrogen that will hopefully kill off this damn plantars wart (I think this is treatment #4. The wart is much smaller now, but unfortunately, still there). Afterward my film discussion group meets, but depending on the road conditions (we got around 4" of snow yesterday), we might switch to Zoom instead. I hope so because I ate way too much yesterday at the wedding, and we've got part 2 tomorrow night, so I really do not need to be eating at a restaurant today. Hopefully the place has something like soup or chili if our in person meeting is "on" (btw - I mentioned this yesterday, but the film of the month for this group is "Imitation Game" - if you haven't seen it, it's well worth a viewing. It's on Netflix)
QOTD: I may have to circle back to this since nothing is coming to mind at the moment, but on a somewhat related note, if I had my life to live over again, I'd be an investigative genetic genealogist - one of those people who works with law enforcement to solve long-cold cases, like the Golden State Killer case. I'm SO fascinated by this!!
B: plain skyr with fruit, coffee with half & half
M: protein shake
L: if at a restaurant, something like soup. If home, maybe something like cottage cheese.
AS: protein muffin
D: salad with ham and light dressing
have a great day, everyone!
here are a couple of pictures from the wedding yesterday (some of these posted in the wrong order, so I'll add captions)
the first hour or so of the ceremony was just with the groom. This is him flanked by his parents. The whole ceremony was in Sanskrit. Mostly the priest read Vedic verses (it sounded like chanting) - there wasn't a lot of two-way communication.
this was actually at the very end of the day, even after we ate. We went upstairs to the main temple for a short ritual (the priest was going around to the statues of some of the deities, again chanting in Sanskrit). After he finished, people went up to congratulate the couple, and they bent down to touch our feet. One of my socks had some crap on it - like lint and little pieces of dried grass or something stuck on it - must have been inside my shoe. I was a little embarrassed!)
the bride arrived in the room where the ceremony was being held about an hour into it. She had her face covered as she entered the room, and as she and her parents approached this area (the area in the picture - where the priest was doing the service), two relatives got up and held up a white sheet behind the groom and his parents. The bride and her parents got behind the sheet so the families couldn't see each other. The sheet was removed after about twenty minutes. The bride and/or her parents were then part of the rest of the ceremony.

Have you listened to the podcast Bear Brook? Season one has a really fascinating (but very sad) case about a dead child who was identified using genealogical dna by internet sleuths. It's a great story.
