Morning gang. Movie day! I wonder if Cocaine Bear will have sequels? Cocaine Hamster. Cocaine Dachsund. The possibilities are endless.

QOTD. My last Google search was #9 hinge screws. Bear with me, and share my outrage for a moment. Go to any hardware store and screws come in even sizes. #4, #6, #8, #10, #12. Hinges take #9, which stores done carry. A#8 won't hold a hinge, being too small. #10 are too big, and you won't be able to close the door. It's a conspiracy by hinge manufacturers. Where is the outrage!?

I am your outrage adjacent....my basement door won't shut and I've adjusted the hinges; we have a subsidence issue in this part of the state and I think it's made my door not fit any longer so I'll have to find a handyman to fix it! I am outraged because the hinge fix for a sticky door is the only thing I've ever successfully learned off YouTube and it's let me down.

It could have settled, it could have swelled from humidity, the wood could have warped. It should be an easy fix. It's a little far for me to make a house call, sorry.

One must reflect, then - how are so many doors hung?

I checked mine and even living in the country, I was pleasantly surprised to find screws securing my hinges rather than rusty nails. Granted, I'm no expert on screw sizes.

They almost always have screws. But screws on anything in the last few decades are only about 5/8" long, on a 1/2" door frame. Doors 100 years ago had 2" thick frames and 1-1/2" screws. Screws never pulled out, frames never warped.

I bet those are the houses that don't blow over like matchsticks in storms, too.

I've learned a lot about doors since buying a house, including that mobile homes have even thinner doors, requiring different locks. This I learned from buying the wrong deadbolt a couple years ago for my not-so-functional solid wood door.

I like McMaster! But when I need screws I'd usually rather not wait. But I get brass and O-1 bars and sheets from them often, as well as odd screws, inserts, grommets, and things I can't get elsewhere.

I hate Big Hinge Money corrupting the industry! I understand your frustration in general finding common items at hardware stores. While the local hardware store used to be the end all, be all of knowledge and anything needed, they are no longer my go to for immediate needs.

At first, I thought this was a ridiculous joke suggestion but, apparently, it may work... if you only have one hinge to replace, throw the m10 screws into a drill, put a file in bench vice, and make them into 9".

Edited to add, Corporate overlord Walmart appears to carry m9.

DH had this same dilemma just a few weeks ago changing the hinges after he painted the kitchen cabinets. I thought he was bat **** crazy and was just trying to get me to run from hardware store to hardware store because he was bored.

The morning Radio guys were thinking of other animals they'd like to see on cocaine and of course from Pittsburgh they want to see Penguins. I can't wait to get your review.
