Keith and I get practical: we create amazon wish lists, and that can be shared with family. It doesn't mean all items are "practical" on the list. I often get Keith something off the list. He does the same. But its easier that way and with many "wants" on the list - to the end he doesn't know what would he get. I often put stuff on my list that I would like, but that are not really practical or IMPO -overpriced. Plus I may add a separate list of items not on Amazon, specialty items from a particular site or a store.
To add: Keith is a car guy, so any tools, at anytime is always a good idea. Preferably a good quality tools.

When I drove by Harbor Freight with my son, I told him "never buy anything in that store that can injure you if it breaks."

you would like the story: I moved to USA from Canada. I was renting in Canada, so i never needed real tools. When I bought a house in US, i realized I needed simple tools, tool set. I went to HD, looking at drills and tools. There were cheap, too cheap, but at that time, i really did not know brands, or what is cheap but still OK in US. Sales guy approached me asking if I needed help. I explained to him that I was looking for tools I may need. He looked at what I was holding and told me that "these are pretty good and would last you years". I looked at him, and told him "I'm an engineer and I will use the tools. " He said then "you don't want these, let me show you what you need."
I got tools that lasted me for app 10 good years. Only 10 because after I got married, my ex tossed my tools, (yes, he did that) because he assumed the tools belonged to one on my BF. I was really really mad. That was one of first few signs why me marrying him was a huge mistake. We divorced after 4 years (I started divorcing procedure after 3 years). When I met Keith - I told him that he is not allowed to touch my tools. That they are MY tools, that I bought and use. Only a couple of years later he asked me why I said things like that to him? When I told him I did not wanted him to throw they away, he looked puzzled at me. Apparently "Normal guys" don't get rid of tools. Of course now, 12 years into the relationship, we have a small handy set of tool at home al the time, and the rest Keith has in his "Cave " but I cna use all and any of them if I would want to. I often relay on Keith..

I have some tools that I will lend to other people, and most that they aren't allowed to handle, much less take home with them.

I hope this doesn't sound odd but I saw a casket that reminded me of you. Someone loved M&M's so so much that she had her son make her a blue M&Ms casket. I thought of you and your love of them. If it had been orange!
ok that did sound odd...LOL
