Mornin' All!

I got an email last night from a good friend's sister. My friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last summer and given 12 months to live. Well, he didn't make it to twelve months. He died on Friday after seven months. It was a rough night. A mutual friend and I have been trying to set up a visit with him for at least a month, and he kept telling us to hold off awhile longer because he was feeling pretty awful. It's fine - his health and well-being were more important than us getting to visit him, so that wasn't my point in saying this - it's more that I now understand how and why he was feeling so bad. He was close to the end. I'm glad I DID get to visit with him a handful of times since his diagnosis (all before Christmas) - and we had fairly frequent contact over email. There's a visitation on Thursday night. The weather is supposed to be scary from tomorrow afternoon to Thursday afternoon, but I'm going to try to make it over there come hell or high water. We've known each other for 35 years, he lived with me once for about a month when he was apartment hunting, and there were two years when we had apartments across the hall from each other, so we were in each other's apts practically all the time. Anyway, ugh. This has all been on my mind and will be for quite awhile, I think.

I've been fortunate with my online classes since I think they've all included lectures. Either live lectures (via Zoom), or if the class was "asynchronous" (i.e., not at a specific class time - so you could listen to the lectures whenever), they recorded their lectures and uploaded them to the class site. I think I would be ticked if that were not the case.

QOTD: I'm supposed to average 100+ grams a day because we discovered early out that I malabsorb protein. If I don't average 100+ a day, my prealbumin level tanks. The whole reason I still do a protein shake every morning is because if I do that, I'll pretty much always be at 100 or more grams by the end of the day. I COULD get it all in my food, but I don't want to bother with having to obsess about protein all day - if I'm having enough, if I need more, what else could I eat if I need more. I don't have to worry about that if I have my mid-morning shake, since it's a rare day when I'm not up to 100 or more by then end of the day.

B: plain skyr with fruit, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: egg salad on either a couple of Wasa crisp breads or between two slices of 35-calorie regular bread

AS: protein muffin or Ratio yogurt

D: salad with turkey breast, a diced hard-boiled egg (maybe) and light dressing

ex: I have kind of a busy day today, but I'll do something. If I don't , the negative calorie adjustment on my MFP/Fitbit pairing only gives me around 1200 calories to eat (with at least SOME exercise - like 30 minutes of cardio or 5000-ish steps, it gives me 1450 - which is way better..) (my maintenance level is around 1600 - so even at 1450, I'll lose weight - but slowly)
