Good morning JB and Menu Friends. Its been a little while. I read often, work has been getting in the way of posting. It seems every time I start to post, I get pulled in another direction. I have been doing very well. I changed my diet strategy and am down 11.4 pounds since January 1. Still eating low carb, now eating lean proteins and this change has made a difference.
Grim - even though I am losing weight, there is nothing I miss more than ribeye. Sirloin is not cutting it, when I reach my goal the first thing I am going to eat is a ribeye.
Last week was a tough one for us, we had to say goodbye to Miss Bethany on Friday. There were signs up to Friday that she had been slowing down. Friday our morning routine was the same, Joddie gets up before me and grabs her from Ryleys room and Bethany comes in to bed with me for about 30 minutes daily, she was a snuggler. She had not been eating regularly since Tuesday, after I left for work Friday, she layed in front of the rear slider looking outside and would not move. Alex messaged me and I went home to check on her, she did not get up when I walked through the door. When we go to the Vet she collapsed on the floor, they checked her gums and even I could see they were very pale, she had a tumor that burst, we had a quick decision to Make, at first we said surgery, there was high probability she would not make it through surgery, end prognosis was 1-3 months. We then decided to not prolong her suffering, she gave us time to make the right decision. The boys were able to leave work and we were able to say good bye as a family. We are heartbroken, in perspective things can always be worse. We will use her water and food bowls as planters, her collar will go on our Christmas tree on a yearly basis, we do the same with the collar of our previous dog.
QOTD - I was only able to watch until about 12 minutes remaining, the dog commercials tore at our heartstrings. Amazon and The farmers dog.

L - Salad with grilled chicken, cukes and SF G Hughes Rasp Vin.

I am so sorry for your families loss. They hold special power over our hearts!
Mel
I'm so sorry to hear about Bethany. We've been in that situation so many times and it's always heartbreaking. You made the right decision. I would have done the same. There have been a couple of times when I know in my heart that we waited too long because I couldn't bear to lose them, and years later, I still regret that. Sparing them suffering is a final gift we can give them. I would want the same for myself, if it were possible (in most states, it's not) - sometimes I think we're kinder to our pets than we are to humans. Anyway, my heart goes out to you. It's really difficult.
