Anyone have their remnant stomach removed??

Just wondering...I had my surgery in 2006.

I've used some NSAIDs over the years...Yeah I know, no need to harp. I'm a big boy and know what I am facing.

If/when I die, I would like an autopsy of my remnant stomach...See how much damage occurred.

Please, only those who have had it done or know someone (personally...Not just these boards) who have had it done. Thanks

I think when I had my hernia surgery, they took it out. (I asked him to) He cleaned up a bunch of stuff from previous surgeries and cleaned up Scar tissue. Pretty sure mine is gone.

The remnant does still serve a purpose. That's why it's not removed during RNY. If there are other problems they remove it, sure. But that's really a question for your doctors.

From discussions with our surgeon, the primary concern with NSAIDs and the RNY is the anastomosis, as the pouch is tied into a part of intestine that is not acid resistant like the duodenum that is bypassed along with the remnant stomach and subject to irritation. So, that is where damage is likely to occur, and is thankfully something that can be scoped if necessary. The remnant can still be a concern if something else develops in there that doesn't get detected in a timely manner (polyps, perhaps, that can be pre cancerous, or worse in time, and can be sometimes be stimulated by routine PPI use if one is using them to treat acid issues.)
