What's on your Wednesday Menu?

Morning! This cartoon reminded me of an article I read the other day. I forget which celebrity it was, but the headline was that he lost 20lbs in 20 days and "the weight just fell off," the article title said. I clicked it and it turned out that he reduced his calories by more than half, ate completely clean and ran 10 miles a day at high intensity. So "just fell off" seemed like a real misleading headline...
Not sure what is going on today. Grim and I feel like we want an adventure because we were both in a low energy funk yesterday. We will probably drive up to NH but we haven't actually made a plan yet.
QOTD: Let's do a pet peeve round up! What's bugging you lately? I've got two. First up, men reallllllllly need to stop commenting on women's bodies. No comments about their size, how they work, or even compliments. Just stop it. Second, I've noticed an uptick of commercials lately that have two people acting like newscasters who are discussing some sort of investment or financial product, but they make it seem like it's a news report. It seems like it's targeted to manipulate old people and it makes me really mad that it's legal to try to manipulate people that way.
B: Costco egg bites
S: almonds & babybel
L&D: ?? completely depends on what we end up doing today but we will probably be out for one or both meals

Good morning QJB and menuers,
Ooh, have fun planning your adventure to NH!
Still in New Orleans. We'll leave out tomorrow morning sometime depending on when the rain gets here. Yesterday we did a city tour and learned a lot of history, including Katrina failures. We also did a haunted history carriage ride last night and got the Mardi Gras mule with purple hooves. Kind of fun. I may have gotten my friend addicted to beignets. We ended up visiting two separate Cafe Du Monde locations in a day.
Today we will take a plantation tour and a swamp boat ride. No airboat, but that's okay. One of the things we learned yesterday is that the fish and game department carefully monitors the size of gators around the city and relocates them once they get to about five feet, so hopefully we'll see some of those gators on the tour. I haven't been out on the swamp before but have always wanted to go to the everglades. It will be a good day.
Accountability- A beignet. Had a delicious seafood crepe for breakfast that I deconstructed to get all the shrimp and crawfish, plus some red peppers and onions. Dinner was gator tail at a rooftop bar on Bourbon Street. Still pretty on point. Also crammed in a Built bar last night.
Exercise- just learned last night that our hotel has a little exercise room so I want to go walk for at least a half hour before our pickup this morning. I'm a much earlier riser than the average person here. Nothing seems to be open until 8 at the earliest.
Menu - Built bar this morning and hotel tea. Water and vitamins. There's a Cafe at the the plantation but I don't know what they serve. Dinner is as it comes but I'll do some research.
QOTD- Hollywood expectations have been getting to me lately. We had a whole conversation about how decades of movie magic, standardized movie plots and tropes have changed people's expectations about how life works. One example is childbirth. Movie magic is a thirty second montage with no mess and a perfectly clean and wrapped baby at the end. It's shocking how many people aren't aware of the realities. I've never had kids but there are very good reasons for my tokophobia. Oh, and also the "everything works out in the end" happy ending since the whole topic came up after we watched a movie called "You People" the other day.
Hope you all have a great.. forgot what day it is cause I'm on vacation! :) Cheers!

If it's still open, I think cafe beignet (which if I remember correctly is about a block off bourbon street) has better beignets than cafe du monde (if your friend wants to try an additional source for her addiction). I wouldn't recommend watching it but the first episode of House of Dragons has the anti-hollywood birth scenes....it's probably a bit OTT but much more like a medieval birth would have been than the usual. Enjoy the two tours!

Thanks for the pointer! Yep. We walked past that location yesterday with the musician's courtyard. Technically, they're open and we could go now before our pickup but we're not ready. I offered to go pick something up but she has two partial bags of beignets on the desk right now. They're better hot but I think she's good with those for now! Since she mentioned wanting to eat hot beignets (in my car!) on the way out of town tomorrow, I'll put that bug in her ear.
Haven't seen that show yet but have heard about the graphic nature of that scene. It's caused some questions to be asked, for sure! At least we've come some distance from medieval birthing...right?

The you people made me laugh. When my grandpa was mad at someone he'd call them "you people". That's when you knew he is angry.
I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your trip.

Maybe that's where the name of the movie came from. It was two culturally different people who fell in love and wanted to get married...but their cultures and families clashed terribly. Billed as a rom-com. Some interesting plot lines that make you think, though.
And thanks, it's nice to get away!
