Good morning QJB and menu folks.

Gym meme is hilarious. I am happy with myself as Joddie and I went to the gym 4 times during the break!

My last day worked was 12/23, back at it today. I enjoy the time off, but was ready to get back to my regular routine. My folks went back to FL on 01/01, they had been with us since 12/15.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful New year.

Good morning, everybody!

I think that we have an owl in our neighborhood. But I haven't been able to see it yet.

When my in-laws were visiting in November (did I mention that was for 8 days?), they heard the hooting. Then a couple of weeks ago, me and Marilyn were watching TV and we heard hooting, so we turned off the TV and listened to the back and forth. It sounded like a Great Northern Barn Owl, based on recordings that some bird sites have on the internet. Also, it was at 8:30 PM, which I guess is prime hooting time.

We also have a hawk's nest in a tree outside of our house and supposedly Owls steal nests from hawks.

I did read read an article that basically says stop claiming you have an owl, its probably a Morning Dove if its close to your window. And yesterday I heard hooting at 5:00 AM, which is not prime hooting time.

When I go back from lifting yesterday, the Hawk was back in the tree where it built its nest, but no Owl. Marilyn got a picture of the Hawk. I believe that the vast majority of nests in our neighborhood trees are Squirrels, (big fluffy nests with lots of leaves), but the Hawk's nest is much more stick based and tends to be in the V of a tree branch.

So, I am on the lookout for the Owl.

Back to work today. I'm not dreading it, but not jumping up and down either.

Hopefully, Marilyn and DS are going to drive down and pick up her kayak today.

QOTD: I took French from 4th grade through 2 semester's of college. I can read a little but can't speak and it goes too fast to understand in realtime.

Eight days with your in-laws? Wow. When my MIL used to visit us from New Jersey (before she moved here), I was ready to pack her bags for her after about three days....

I know there is some quote that leftovers and house guests go bad after three days.

Mornin'!!

I'm planning to go to either water aerobics or Aqua Zumba this morning (the latter is more intense - but on the other side of town - so, trade-off...), and then I have Mah Jongg this afternoon as long as I don't have to take my mother to the audiologist. Other than that, not much going on in my world. I'm looking forward for classes to start at the end of the month so I'll be busy again. There's an online class at UW-Milwaukee in their nutrition dept on weight loss and obesity. I've already emailed the professor and told her that I'm going to apply for her permission to audit the class, but I just wanted her to know ahead of time that I've been SMO, have been on every diet known to humankind, had WLS, co-led one of the monthly classes at my clinic for three years (i.e., before COVID hit), and was on a panel at the OH conference in California last fall. I'm hoping my history will give me a leg up in being approved for audit (and that I didn't go overboard - hopefully she's not afraid I'll be some know-it-all in class or something - although as an auditor, I'm just an observer, not a participant - so maybe that's OK??). Anyway, I'm really hoping I'll be able to get into the class! I'm also thinking about a film class, too...

QOTD: I took Spanish, French, and German in high school and college (well, started Spanish in junior high), and then later took Swedish and Japanese at community colleges. The only two I still have some knowledge of (and this is mostly in that I can kinda sorta read it - I know enough words to get the gist of what is being said) are French and Spanish. I know enough to understand menus and signs - so I can get around OK in countries where those languages are spoken). I was taking Italian lessons in Duolingo before I went to Italy - it was helpful - although we had a somewhat complicated issue where I had to talk with someone who didn't know any English, so the two of us had to use our very spotty Spanish and French to communicate, but at least it worked!!

B: plain skyr with cranberry/cherry compote, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: chickpea spread on 35-calorie bread

AS: protein shake

D: at the moment I'm thinking half a chik'n sandwich and some salad

have a great day, everyone!!

P.S. I'm always putting skyr and cranberry/cherry compote on my breakfast menu (or at least in the winter - I make other fruit compotes in the summer). Here's a picture of today's breakfast, even though it isn't Friday
