Good morning! I have been up for a few hours reading the news and drinking coffee, and suddenly felt like I was forgetting something... ahh, never posted. Haha--these non-work/school days really have me flummoxed. 14 more days with no responsibilities! :)

I loved seeing your ideas for new things this year. I am inspired! I haven't decided what my first new adventure will be this week. I'm making a big list!

Nothing too exciting today. I have some errands to run and cookies to decorate but I think it will be a pretty low-key day :)

and now I realized that I never typed the QOTD. more coffee please

QOTD: Are you fluent in another language? I'm not. I can get by with reading some basic French but that's about it. I took Spanish on Duolingo for 100 days during the pandemic and I took a few years of Latin in HS but I am in no way fluent in anything other than English.

B: egg bites

L: more fish tacos! (we took my friend out to dinner last night and ended up at the same place we went a few days ago--4 more meals of fish tacos in my future - yay!)

D: homemade chicken parm

Good morning and yay for Tuesday and going back to a more normal work world; I actually expect today will be a bit light on people but tomorrow will return to normal.

Yesterday ended up being.a good day, I finally got to talk to my BFF for the first time since she was hospitalized after her colonoscopy; she's still got at least a month before her hopefully final follow up surgery. Crazy. I also made these Turkish potatoes I found a recipe on MilkStreet for and had bought all the ingredients a few weeks ago -- essentially potatoes mashed with garlic, Aleppo pepper and yogurt, and then baked with cheese. They were good and I will be having them all week.

Nothing too big on the agenda for today, work is almost all one on ones, only 5 or 6 of them, and then I have my personal trainer tonight, we already decided to do a cardio pilates class that I am looking forward to. I'll also do a weight series during my lunch break today too.

QOTD - I took Latin and French in school, although my French is pretty much just reading a menu now but I do like that the Latin gave me a great foundation for word derivatives. can get by in Spanish, slowly, thanks to my two years in Miami and many years supporting our Latin American team. I'm on day 80 of my Finnish duolingo so I can ask for the bathroom, the red wine, the coffee, if you speak English, and if you are a wizard. I can also say please, thank you, hello and bathroom in several random languages. I try to learn those where ever I go:-).

menu today will be

coffee plus half and half

left over breakfast sausage with English muffin

meatballs with Turkish potatoes

yogurt

Have a great day everyone!

I've had a lot of luck with Milk Street recipes. I'm so glad for their focus on ethnic cuisines on the last few years!

And I have found, if you add a genuine smile and show effort, you can convey almost anything. Most people are so willing to meet us half way or even more. Traveling is awesome and the struggle to use native words is a good bit of fun! But my two favorite words in Mexico are definitely vino tinto. But I never will understand why it's not vino rojo. ( Also, I just discovered that our emoji options seem a bit discriminatory, since there are NO wine options that I can find!)

Love this! I've found that people who embrace the cultural aspect of travel by inviting people into their homes, trying to learn about other cultures, or even those who just enjoy meeting new people are often willing to work with you around barriers. It's also a great way to work on your international Charades game! Just saying. :)

I wonder if "vino tinto" means "tinted wine", as opposed to clear (white) wine?

She is worried she's put colonoscopy compliance in our friend group back by 30% but I tell her "not you, your idiot doctor".
