Downhill skiing is our winter sport. I started in high school, then went sporadically during college. Then a long long dry spell until my kids were old enough to ski. When i was heavy it was very difficult to ski since your knees are always slightly bent. I would get such a painful burning in my thighs I would have to stop repeatedly to rest and recover. I was only good for a couple of hours. Now so much better and enjoyable. I will admit to being much more cautious in my "old age" since I am aware of the cost of injury.

Good Morning! JB- I'm glad you are feeling better and had a good holiday weekend. We had an uneventful Christmas Eve and Christmas (explained below) and I'm heading to the office shortly.

Feel free to skim past/ignore this next part. I'll be as concise as possible. She's okay but we had quite a scare with Em Friday. She had been fighting a cold/flu thing most of last week. She went to urgent care on Tuesday to rule out strep and stayed home from work and generally felt miserable. She went back to urgent care Friday morning since she was still with fever and not getting better. There they were able to rule out flu/strep and she'd already tested neg for Covid. But her heart rate was around 180 and they couldn't get it to drop. She was taken to the ER via ambulance (with John driving behind) and I waited for my BIL to come get me to take me there. By the time I got there(about 45 mins) they had already done a chemical cardioversion (I learned that this stops the heart for about 2-3 seconds). After that didn't work to drop it enough (hovering 155-160) they started a medication and waited to see if that would work. Nope, all other vitals okay. ER dr consulting with cardiologist to get direction. One more medicine to try before they have to try the other type of cardioversion (electric with paddles). Luckily, this med started working and after three doses (spaced out) she was in an acceptable range. We don't any definitive reason yet aside from being sick with a high fever for so many days, dehydration and cold meds so she'll follow up with the cardiologist hopefully this week. The ER is a traumatic place to be to begin with but with the hospitals being so full it's alarming to see all the beds outside of rooms and knowing the healthcare workers are working so hard to help everyone. Em came in Stat so she got seen right away but all told we were there 12 hours. Sorry for the long post.

QOTD: I think I'd pick water skiing, it's been forever since I've tried but grew up going to the lake/camping and have tried a few times.

Kelly, that is terrifying. I hope that they are able to identify the problem and a manner of treatment.

Be careful driving to work today, I'm sure it is hard to focus on anything other than Emily.

Thanks, Jim. It was hard to stay calm but it's what she needed from me. My heart hurt so much when she called me from the ambulance just to talk to her to keep her calm. I totally had to fake that whole thing. I still can't drive so John has to take me.

That must have been beyond stressful. I'm glad the med was able to help before they had to do anything more extreme but how scary. I hope she's starting to feel better now and that the followups show it was just a reaction to whatever was going on and not more serious.
