Scheduled for Band Revision to Bypass

I am scheduled for revision surgery next week and met with my surgeon. He started mentioning how he might have to revise to sleeve instead depending on scar tissue, how much omentum was there and if the mesentery part of my small intestine was thick and non pliable. He was the one who suggested I revise to bypass and I'm now getting the feeling that he wants to do the sleeve because it's easier. Has anyone been scheduled for a band to bypass revision and come out of surgery with a band to sleeve instead? I'm eager to hear your experience.

Not personally, but it does happen. And you are correct that it is an easier procedure for the surgeon. There is a higher risk of GERD with a sleeve and often less weight loss. If the sleeve does not result in enough weight loss, or if GERD becomes unbearable, then it is sometimes converted to an RNY.

A DS or variation of DS is offered by some surgeons but not all. Some surgeons remove just the band and then wait for further healing before determining the next surgery. I would discuss all of this before surgery. It is your body, and the surgeon is working for you.

And your final results will depend on how much scar tissue and other damage has been caused by the band.
