G'morning all!
I am back, alive but very sore. We did it, we finished the NorCal #sixpackofpeaks and I couldn't be happier. I can see why they left the Rose leak for last. It was grueling, every time we got happy about a little bit of downhill there was a huge uphill right afterward. According to DH's app and some sort of online trail mapping, we hiked about 22 miles and 5,900 elevation. The extra two miles was for our campsite. I thought it would be just off the main trail, but nope, it was another mile in with more uphills and down hills.
The overnight camping was interesting. DH is an avid backpacker and has all the ghizmo to make camping easy. He carried a huge backpack while mine was half of his. His pots, stove, utensils, and all the other light weight collapsible amenities made our overnight stay more bearable. I am happy I had a sleeping bag for as low as 20 degrees because at night the temps were in the low 30s. Multiple layers of clothing were the savior of the night. The problem was when you had to get out of the sleeping bag in the middle of the night, to take care of business. And somehow, maybe because it was cold or maybe because I had drank a lot during the day, I had to get out of the tent three times. DH was kind enough that he got up with me and stood outside the ten****ching for "danger".
I'll share more tidbits about the hike during the week. Here are few pics: sunrise view from the tent, me at the peak, and few more.
QOTD: I have a black thumb, no plants survive in our house.

I was lessoned during this last hike about the difference between camping and backpacking.
camping: when you can drive to your site and set up tent. Or the max walk is about a couple of miles and there are amenities like shower and drinking water.
backpacking: when you walk/hike for miles and miles and then set up camp with no other amenities. It was fascinating to see him filter our water.
DH told me to never call what we are doing camping, because it's true backpacking. He even said he had never done it when it was this cold.
I never knew there is such a difference, now I know we backpacked and not camped.
