Mornin' All!
I messaged the PA at my bariatric clinic last night because I have had enough of this weight issue. I'm about 20 lbs heavier than I want to be, and I can't seem to lose more than a couple of pounds. My body evidently likes it here - but I don't. And it's super tough to cut calories. I struggle with ignoring the hunger pangs now. How on earth did I do that the first year post-op?? I'm considering joining WW, mostly for the daily support, but I also thought I'd check with my clinic. I was thinking maybe they'd be willing to put me on an appetite suppressant temporarily so I can get my calories down (of course, then there could be the problem of the calories creeping back up once I'm off the meds...). I don't know...I just have to do something. I'm tried of feeling bloated and heavy and looking "fat" from certain angles again. Maybe eating more dense protein, as Jen mentioned above, might help (I don't eat much meat - most days none at all - and when I do, it tends to be something like a couple of ounces of shredded chicken on top of a salad - but maybe it'd help eating slabs of it again...). I don't know - but something's gotta give here...
one of the cats has his annual exam this morning, and I have my in-person class this afternoon. Other than that, one of my film groups meets tomorrow - deciding between going to that and my hairdresser's mother's funeral (of course, I'd rather go to the discussion group...). The woman who picked out the film this time is notorious for picking out 20- and 30-year old blockbusters that we've all seen a million times (I prefer seeing more obscure films, and that's what I and a couple of others usually select when it's our turn to pick). So tomorrow the film we'll be discussing is "Thelma & Louise". i haven't seen it for 30 years so I just read the synopsis to refresh my memory. I realized after reading the summary that I've forgotten so much of it that I'm thinking maybe I should go to the library and pick up the DVD (oddly, it's not on Netflix or Kanopy). Although i could also mostly keep my mouth shut tomorrow so no one suspects I haven't seen the movie since the 1990s, too...
QOTD: I'll have to circle back to this later - nothing is coming to mind at the moment..
B: skyr with fruit, coffee with half & half
MS: cottage cheese
L: protein muffin and the last 1/2 C of chocolate "mousse" (made with cottage cheese and protein powder)
AS: protein shake
D: salad with pulled chicken and light dressing
ex: I'd better do something. It's a beautiful day, so I'll probably walk (or bike if it's not too cold and/or windy....)
have a great day, everyone!
Not that you asked but I would vote no on WW. I think the brain mindset and pressure to perform and weigh yourself at meeting isn't good. You have to realize to when you are only 20 pounds heavier than you want to be it will be slow. You might lose something significant one week but most weeks you won't.
If you were going to count anything I would count grams of protein - I always ate at least 100g when trying to lose, and coun****er. Honestly a certain amount of plain water is the best. It doesn't have to be 64oz if you are drinking other things...but get fluids in. Adding more veggies and fruit doesn't hurt either.
And don't heavily restrict yourself. It backfires -like you said it is not like when you were first out. Keep good habits and it will happen. It will backfire especially going into the holidays...

I actually do get a lot of protein (we discovered early on that I malabsorb it, so I have to get at least 100 grams a day or my prealbumin level tanks..), but much of it is in the form of things like Greek yogurt and cottage cheese - and/or protein shakes and things I add protein powder to - like protein muffins. But I'm thinking maybe adding some denser protein might help - as well as lots of fiber. I just had my breakfast (plain skyr with berries) and decided at the last minute to add a tablespoon of chia seeds to it. Might help tie me over longer than usual...we'll see. I'll try some little things like this. Healthy fats and fibrous things do help - I'll try adding some denser protein, too.
Do you eat eggs? If so try a hard boiled one. I swear those suckers can keep an elephant full. I can easily eat 2 or 3 scrambled eggs, but only 1 hard boiled egg. They for some reason are so dense.
