What's on your Thursday Menu?
that was an easy one for me since we don't have kids! I retired at age 58 and am glad I did. I've known too many people who've worked until they're 65 or 70 and then dropped dead or developed non-fatal health issues a couple of years later that kept them from doing things they'd dreamed about doing after retirement. I decided that wasn't going to be me....

This! I get it if you have to wait because well...life is expensive. But you don't know what kind of shape you'll be in even five years down the road. Punting everything you ever want to do until retirement seems like a great way to miss out on a lot. I'm 40 and it feels like some of my parts are past their expiration date. Waiting to work for another quarter of a century first just seems like such a waste. Was especially sad when someone I worked with had waited and had all their dreams and plans...and then his wife was diagnosed with early onset dementia in her 50's. Best laid plans.

I just remembered to add it... no coffee before posting doesn't make me wicked smahhht.
I'm having live to work / work to live battle with myself now, too. I love my new life of school and turning my fun hobby into a business. The idea of going back to commutes and 80 hour work weeks in 10 months scares me. But I also want to head into retirement with everything I need.

another thing to consider is that all of your kids are (or will be) in well-paying fields, so it's doubtful they'll NEED the money. I mean, of course, it's always great to have and of course if I had kids I want to leave them something, but I wouldn't want to put my own life aside too, too much just in order to leave a legacy, because like Cautiously_Hopeful said, you never know what kind of shape you'll be in in five years - or ten years. Plus you worked hard for that money - I think I'd want to enjoy it!!
Mornin' All!
that meme looks like poutine - if so, we can blame Canada for that one!! (I can't imagine eating all that fat - YIKES!!!)
The only scheduled thing I have today is an in-person class at 4:00 (although I still have a ton of catching up to do on other things), but since it'll be in the 50s with only light winds, I think I'll take a long bike ride while I still can. I'll plan one that has the university campus near the end of the ride, so I can go to class and then ride home afterward (it's about a 30-minute ride from campus to my house). With the time changing in another week or two -- not to mention colder weather coming - this may be the last time I can bike to class (it ends at 5:15, and I don't bike in the dark, so...).
I'm trying little changes as well, since my weight was higher yesterday than it's been in years. Although I was down a pound this morning, so it was probably water. But still... I've been talking about losing at least 10 lbs for at least a year, so it's time to buckle down.
B: plain skyr with fruit, coffee with half & half
MS: protein shake
L: salad with chicken breast and light dressing
AS: will take a protein bar or muffin with me on the bike ride
D: spinach gnocci with homemade marinara sauce
have a great day, everyone!!

if that is poutine, it's the americanized version -- the ones I've had in Canada were less gloopy, less everything to be honest.
