So glad everyone made it through and that your home didn't take damage. Thank you for supporting people whose homes didn't make it through. Sounds like you have a lot going on. All the best to you.

G'morning all!!!

A little late to the party. I woke up expecting to go down to the lobby to get my starbucks with Amy!!

The conf was fun and informative. It was fun because there was a group of us and it was great to meet the people I have talked to for the last 4-5 years. For the information, I agree with Jim, not a lot has changed but here and there there were additional info that made me go ah! The presenter about gut health captured most of our attention.

The conf was also a motivator for me to get my butt in gear and not slack off. I'm a competitive person by nature, and seeing some of the participants in tip top shape made me realize I can't relax.

Icing on the cake was seeing my son yesterday. He let me organize his kitchen and pantry and I felt very accomplished. His apartment is huge for a student apartment, now at least I see it's worth what we are paying for. His closet was so organized and made me feel proud. He actually proudly open his closet door to show me. I couldn't stop hugging him all day.

QOTD: I am usually a 6

My meals yesterday :

  • Coffee
  • HUGE mex breakfast, I stuck with eggs and shredded meat.
  • Couple of bars and jerkies
  • E: nope -

Happy start of the week.

At the end, when I was leaving, he gave me such a tight squeeze hug that for a sec I thought my ribs cracked. I'll take the cracked rib any day if it means I get a hug from my son!

G'evening All!

conference was great - I was also most interested in the gut health session. I think I do OK with fruits and vegetables since a dietitian I follow online once recommended trying to eat 30 different plant foods a week, and it's not too much of a challenge for me to do that (I've been keeping track the last few weeks). It's going to be a challenge to wean myself off artificial sweeteners, though - they have been a godsend. I'm going to try replacing some of the sweet stuff with fruit....and/or just plain get off some of it. Oddly, I rarely ate sweets before I had surgery, but now I crave it. But I know the more you eat of it, the more you crave it - so I just need to focus on getting off the damn stuff. Also, Miralax - she said that's really bad for your gut bacteria - if I understand correctly, it flushes it out - and with us taking it every day, it probably never has a chance to grow back. This is going to be a tough one. She also said to try to eat fermented food every day. I do eat yogurt every day -and I eat miso occasionally. I'll monitor myself and add something fermented if needed. Anyway, some things to work on.

I'm not sure if every conference has a theme, but if there was a theme at this one, it would have been regain since a majority of the sessions dealt with some aspect of that. It was exactly what many of us needed...

QOTD: this weekend (at the conference) it would have been a 1, since I drank more wine than I'd normally drink in a year! Last night it would have been a 4, since I slept over 9 hours, which is unheard of for me. Today it's been a combination of most of these cats, since I've swung from crappy mood to great mood. I think the crappy one is over now, thank God.

yesterday and today were great calorie-wise (although I only ate yogurt, protein bars, and a "protein snack pack" that I bought at the Dallas airport (should have been called a "fat snack pack" - it was salami, cheese, and crackers). But..it was a travel day, so you do what you can. Today was better choice-wise. I also biked for 1.25 hours. Not a long ride for me, but good enough.

so today I had:

B: plain skyr with strawberry/blackberry compote, coffee with half & half

MS: protein shake

L: grilled cheese (cheddar, 35-calorie bread, rosemary, and tomato slices), pear

AS: 1/2 C pistachio yogurt with some protein powder mixed in

D: 4 oz salmon, small sweet potato with a pat of butter and Swerve brown sugar

hope everyone had a great day!!

Fascinating! Thanks for sharing some more details. Glad you had a good time!

Would love to hear more about the fruits and vegetables if there was something deeper than aiming at variety.
