Good morning, everybody!

I had a PR Snatch yesterday. Only by one pound, but its still a good feeling.

A few years ago, I asked my doctor how long I would have calorie malabsorption for. She said forever, and I knew that was wrong, so I just assumed that she didn't hear me correctly and moved on.

I know that it is commonly disseminated here that we have calorie malabsorption for a few years and then it goes away.

So when I was at my 4 year Surgiversary appointment last week, I asked the PAC the same question. Her answer surprised me equally: "Never. RNY isn't a malabsorptive surgery." She showed me on the chart why she answered as she did. Now, I am really surprised.

I googled it and an answer came up on OH, which was an article written by a doctor who had performed 2,500 surgeries. His answer was maybe a little bit. His analysis is very close to my PAC's and he goes on to say that although RNY isn't considered a malabsorptive surgery, he does think that maybe 5% of our weight loss could be from malabsorption.

At this point, its only a matter of curiosity because if there ever was a malabsorption period, I am past it anyways.

Marilyn is fully into the US Open now, so I may be on my own for food the next 11 days or so.

In the office today.

QOTD: Although bicycle is the sensible answer and I haven't rode since high school, I am tempted to go with a horse. Please don't anybody hitchhike.

Breakfast: omlette

Lunch: Ahi tuna salad

Dinner: Hot dogs

Have a great day, all!

I think the malabsorption issue is interesting and I see why you would want to know the answer. Frankly, it concerns me that at year 3-4 I "should" expect a rebound in weight.. Why?? It makes me wonder if it is because we become more comfortable and relaxed with our eating and snacking?

That, I'm sure is part of it, but I do think that most people's bodies reset up a little bit at that point.

The intestines are lined with hairlike structures that grab the food that is sent through. These cilla grab food and hold it against the wall of the intestine so that the calories can be absorbed. After RNY many cilla are gone or non-functional. Food passes through without being absorbed. That is RNY malabsorption.

The body knows that it is getting food and not absorbing it. By year three it creates new and stronger cilli. Food gets grabbed and calories absorbed even better than before surgery. Weight comes back quickly. Only eating less calories than burned works when malabsorption ends.

I occasionally "attend" Unjury's support meetings on Wednesday nights. They usually feature a speaker. They had a dietitian on once from some big program out east (can't remember exactly which clinic she's with - I think one of the Boston ones, though). She does a lot of public speaking about WLS. She said they expect a 5-15% rebound of a patient's lowest weight, usually during year three (in other words, if the patient gets to 140 lbs, it's more or less expected that they'll end up somewhere in the 147-161 range). She said they don't even consider it a "regain" unless it's over 15%

Good morning ~ Speaking of Starbucks - PSL's come out today (thanks for the heads up, Kelly)! Rob is there right now, haha. He is so excited. I may have a pumpkin foam drink this weekend - maybe. I found a recipe for "Starbucks" pumpkin spice sauce/creamer that sounds great. I will just leave out the sugar it calls for and add my own sweetener in each cup as usual. I had a good day at work yesterday. I finally was able to resolved some issues and everything is organized - it felt good. Today I have one meeting and one training but otherwise a light day.

QOTD - Hard no on the hitchhike for me - beyond the fear of being picked up by a serial killer, I don't like being at the mercy of others in general, haha. I'd rather bike.

Accountability -1/2 green apple and NSA natural peanut butter

b- coffee, my egg bites

l- chicken, franks buffalo sauce, blue cheese, celery

d-meatballs and sauce, salad mix with evoo/balsamic

s - 1/2 green apple w/PB

e - one more iFIT challenge day down!

Have a great day!

Good morning. This is going to be quick because I'm running late. Yesterday was a good day. Food in point, fluids on point and no wine or cheese.

Qotd- I would go with bike. I would want one of the 3 wheeled tricycle types with a big basket so I can bring my dog.

Food plan for today

cold brew with vanilla protein shake and a splash of sf caramel.

tuna salad mixed with boiled egg, onion, celery lots of yellow mustard

taco salad

chomps and boiled egg for snacks if needed

Have a great day!
