That is a lot, especially in the honeymoon period but sounds like you know where you went off track, you know what you need to do...and you can do it! Kicking yourself is less useful than just starting now to make each decision better. Good luck! If this was easy, we wouldn't need each other for support.

Matt, we are all on this page for a reason. You should always feel comfortable to post struggles that you are having.

I also find it hard to admit to my missteps. It is hard to let others know that you have made mistakes in food and other choices. That is why social media accounts show perfect, happy, harmonious lives of the people we know. It is great to know that others on this site have faced many of the same struggles and choice misadventures, but still able to lend emotional support. I am so glad I discovered this great group of fellow RNYers!

I hadnt weighed in over 2 weeks and I was afraid to get on the scale (I was up a little, which scared me). My accountability has declined a bit with allowing myself handfuls of Boom Chick Pop kettle corn. I also need to be more accountable to myself, maybe stepping on the scale daily now that I have reached my goal. I also consider keeping my missteps to myself with not sharing with others on this site, but realistically we are only deluding ourselves with our secretiveness. Kudos on the bravery on sharing your misadventures with food choices. You know where you have slipped therefore you can correct those areas and focus on today/future. Dont beat yourself up, this is a learning experience for all of us and requires us to break a lifetime of bad habits. You can do it!

To start, happy surgiversary! It's been a year since you made a change for the better and got a great tool to help you along the way.

I might be a surgery newbie but I'm a weight loss veteran...and second what everyone else has said. You know you can do this. One day at a time, one meal at a time, one decision at a time. We all get off track. And everyone's journey is different. I know I need to track and weigh my food. I need to weigh daily for accountability....especially once I'm closer to goal. It works for me but wouldn't work for many. What's important will be what works for you.

Also want to say...congrats on the 90+ pounds you're down now. That's huge. You can do this.

Please know that we are here for you! Being honest with yourself is hard enough, posting here for support shouldn't be. I'm really glad you posted. From experience, I know all too well how this feels. You got this!

The honeymoon really refers to the period after RNY surgery when the intestines are not absorbing most of the food that passes through. During that period it is very easy to lose and maintain the loss. When that phase ends then it is considered normal to have a 20 pound rebound gain. With VSG, every calorie is absorbed and all of the weight loss is due to reduced calorie intake because of being able to eat such a small amount at a time.

Somewhere before the end of the third year after RNY, the malabsorption ends and the rebound happens. With VSG, that does not happen but we learn to eat more calories everyday and start to regain. i learned that only calories count after the magic of surgery is gone. For me, Weigh****chers has been my answer. I became a lifetime member in 1973, so in my 49th year of WW. I still need the inspiration of attending meetings, although now I attend on Zoom.

The other way to maintain your weight loss is by becoming very active. If you exercise enough then you can eat more and not have regain. I also swear by daily weighing. I need to know where I am all of the time, not weekly or monthly.

Real life begins where your comfort zone ends

Matt- you have done a good job thus far, just a bump in the road. You know what needs to be done and you will do it. I really need this page for the support and also because this is the only group that understands the struggle as we have all lived it. If I am missing from this page for months at a time it is usually because I am not holding myself accountable. I am sure there are some who shake their heads, but is a struggle for me. There is no easy button. I am however blaming my latest issues with my injuries, ( included a ride in the ambulance) and to my place of work being sold. I am back with a vengeance. Posting about my struggle as I want you to know you are not alone, we are in this together.

i've been there, that's why i'm here - Kenny Chesney!
