Mornin' All!

I'm hoping it'll clear up later today so I can go biking or walking. I need movement. Nothing else really going on although I'm going to dive into these (travel) books on Scotland that I got from the library. I'm one of those people who needs most things planned out and scheduled before I go on a big trip.

QOTD: lately it's been my mother's health since my sister no longer lives in town, so it's all on me. I'd feel better if she'd move into a continuous-care community (she could probably stand assisted living at the moment), but she doesn't want to leave her apartment. I'm also a little nervous about going overseas because of her, but then, my husband and MIL will be here, as will my niece. They can probably take care of things if anything happens - and I should be easy enough to get ahold of if need be. My other (more permanent) fear is gaining weight. I've put on some this spring and I need to get it back off before it gets any worse. Right now I'm just trying to get back to my normal eating, since a lot of this is probably due to being on vacation and going to a lot of events lately that feature meals. If a return to normal doesn't do the trick, I'm considering starting up with WW when I get home from Scotland.

B: not hungry - so probably just a protein shake. Coffee with half & half.

MS: protein pancakes topped with plain skyr and strawberry-rhubarb compote

L: chickpea/tuna salad on 35-calorie bread

AS: L&F yogurt and a skinny bagel with light cream cheese

D: not sure - probably either Caprese salad or an Indian bean curry

have a great day, everyone!

I love the pre travel planning but I've also learned to allow (planned) spontaneity. My friends laugh when I say it but you planners know what I mean!

yes we do!!!

I've been looking around for other lodging options for the two nights after I get back from my excursion up to the northern coast. I may just end up staying at the same (downtown) hotel that i'm staying at for the first half of the trip. It's about 150 pounds a night, but honestly, that's cheap for a hotel in Edinburgh. There are a handful of B&B's that are cheaper (or some pretty shabby-looking hotels), but they're out on the outskirts of town, and they're not much cheaper and definitely not as central. There are also youth hostels that are cheaper, but...no thanks. Not at my age. The hotel I've booked for the first few days is just a couple of blocks from the train & bus station to boot, so I can get anywhere easily.

Plus it seems like most B&B's in Scotland are basically a spare bedroom in someone's house - and there's only one guest at a time (or perhaps a couple sharing the bedroom). I prefer the B&B's that have 3-5 bedrooms and a common lounge and kitchen, like they have in many other places. You feel less like someone's personal guest in their home.

I'm contemplating just staying at the airport the final night. I have a 6:00 am departure, and the check in desk opens at 3:00 am. The last flight to EDI lands at 2:25 am, so the airport is open all night. I'd rather not be walking around downtown Edinburgh at 2:00 in the morning with my luggage. There's always an airport hotel, but am I really going to sleep if I know I have to be at the airport around 3:00?? Doubtful. Might as well save myself a couple hundred bucks. I've overnighted at airports before, for the same reason (ungodly early flight). It's basically you and a handful of other early flighters, plus the custodial staff and some security staff. I typically don't sleep at them - I just bring a book and drink a lot of coffee. Plenty o' time to sleep on the plane on the long ride home...

I have done that. Just check that the airport doesn't boot people out at x time. I know of one large airport that does it as a way to keep the un-housed from staying in the terminal overnight.

G'morning all!

Holy moly, already end of the month? Jen, if I were living alone I'd be worried about my basement too. When DH is out of town I hear weird noises in the house that usually I don't hear, or don't pay attention to, when he is around. Looooove the pic of you and your nephew; people who close their eyes while smiling are my people.

Our plans for the memorial weekend are firming up. A couple of friends from out of town will visit so there will be Indian food (yum, my favorite), biking and SUPing.

For my Fri pic I'd like to brag about my DD; she is turning 24 on Sun. First pic when she was around 3 years old. The other one was taken in the last month or so. I know I'm her mom and totally biased but this girl has my heart.

QOTD: my biggest fear is my kids' health and well being. Especially nowadays, they don't have to be in a school to be in danger, they could be in a supermarket, at a concert, anywhere. Especially with DS who is not very communicative, if I haven't heard from him in 4-5 days I send a text saying "proof of life", then he knows I'm really worried and sends me a pic of himself.

My meals yesterday :

  • Coffee
  • Left over smoked salmon + edamame
  • Hot coca (yup, it's that cold)
  • Deviled eggs, caramel washed Gouda & rosemary crisps
  • E: 4 miles jog

Happy Fri-yay!

Those pictures of DD are great!!

i know you are on the cooler side of things, do you have to wear a wet suit year round? I mean, I know with SUP you are supposed to be out of the water but the few times I've tried it, I am in the water a lot, lol

We wear wetsuits all year around because the water is too cold, even during summer. People like DH who are in the water even in the winter wear spring suits (less thick and Bermuda length) during summer, but I'm a wimp and want all the heat I can have. And I fall in the water too, so I def want the full coverage.
