Does anyone know if RNY patients can use the topical Aleve gel? I know the pill form is a big no but Tylenol just isn't doing the job!

Thank you!

  • I haven't looked it up recently and I don't know about this specific one. But when I did Google it, when I needed a topical pain relief, I recall it said if you can't ingest it you can't use it as topical either because it enters your system.
The one I know I can use, and I use frequently, is biofreeze.

I don't know that I would chance it. Even absorbed through the skin if it does it's job, it would probably cause issues. There is a great cream for pain vortex(otc)that my pain doctor use to prescribe. Hope it helps.

Aleve gel can cause ulcers in RNY patients just like the pills can. I also recommend BioFreeze. The professional strength that you buy from a doctor or medical supply works much better than the one you buy at Walmart.
