oh, that is a look! I know I've heard of hot pants but I don't think I have seen them before. Someone could wear that look today! Did they consider you scandalous wearing that to church back then? I would have love to shock the church ladies, lol.

Older women and my up-tight younger friends did consider it very inappropriate to wear those outfits to church. My son was born in April, 1972 and I have have pictures from his baptism that summer. Both my sister, who is his godmother, and I wore really cute hotpants outfits to church for the ceremony.
The interesting thing about hemlines is that they go up when the economy goes up and get lower when the economy goes down. In the early 80's it was still acceptable to have your hem slightly above your knee. By the recession of the 1990's it was common to see ankle length hems. Trouser suits took away most of that and ended up being the most practical approach to looking professional in almost any situation.
