What's on your Wednesday Menu, RNYers?
G'morning all!
OK, that is funny! I picture the kitty in karate outfits trying to learn some self defense.
I know there are a lot of cat people on this thread, I'm not...mainly because I'm very allergic to them. I touch them and I get horrible hives on my body where I touched them. Somehow both my kids love cats and as soon as they were on their own they adopted a cat, go figure. My son told us during the weekend his & his gf's cat died. He was going on and on about the cat and how her poor little lungs filled up with fluid. It's the first time in ages that I saw him showing emotions for something. I know he is going through grief but boy I was glad for him for maturing slowly and showing his emotions instead of bottling them up.
QOTD: there is a Defense Language Institute in Monterey, it's for servicemen who go abroad and learn the language of the place before they are deployed. 4-5 years ago their Italian teacher was not available and they called on me (I was on their sub list). I really enjoyed teaching every day Italian to adults. I didn't have to keep their attention, they were adults who wanted to be there. And I didn't have to teach basic grammar (I hate grammar), it was just phrases about every day life. It was a lot of fun. I think of that group often and wonder how they did once they landed in Italy.
My meals yesterday:
- Coffee
- Egg bites & cauliflower thins
- Chomp stick, quest chips
- Pulled pork & melted cheese
- E: 5 miles jog
Happy hump day!

Oh that is amazing!! When I was learning Spanish for my stint supporting Latin America, the grammar killed me. Also, I was probably never going to talk about my pantalones Azul at the workplace, lol. Useful phrases like "vino tinto, por favor" were much better!

LOL! I thought about this back when I was taking Japanese at our local community college (I was in my 40s, I think). I couldn't even fathom ever using half the stuff we were learning to say. I'm now trying to teach myself some Italian (using Duolingo) before my trip, so at least I can manage basic greetings and can recognize things on a menu. I've learned some basic greetings - but of course, most of the other stuff I'm learning won't be useful to me on the trip (e.g., "The woman writes a book"). So I'll have to take a dictionary with me...
Google translate works fine on your phone when you want to speak to somebody. Most people will understand basic English, as long as you don't speak too fast and your American accent is not too thick.

So true. We had a situation where I was trying to teach them different types of water at restaurants. Gassata o naturale (bubbly or not). One of the guys (who was very funny) said "in short you are telling the wait staff you wan****er with gas?" I had never thought of it that way

I took French in high school and was pretty awful at the pronunciation. I swear I have a speech impediment when it comes to saying words correctly in English, let alone another language. I come by it naturally since both my parents are the same.

That would be a useful class; I think a lot of people just use Facebook marketplace or things like that and not sure it's the most effective.

Good morning ~ That meme IS hilarious! I have Caste on my list to read. I am in the middle of several books I'm not quite loving/not hating and trying to finish...almost there. Caste is my reward. Lincoln Highway is down the road yet. Yesterday I ended up having a 6 hour meeting that I thought was today! Not a fun way to start the day, but at least it's over. Today, I now have time to catch up and have lunch with my kiddo.
QOTD - If I were really passionate about something and good at it - sure, but I'm drawing a blank!! If I could magically be gifted knowledge to teach it would be music - piano in particular.
Accountability - I ate a horrible, stale donut last night before bed - the whole nasty thing and I don't even like donuts.
b- coffee, egg bites
l - Jersey Mike's sub in a tub or lettuce wrapped Carl's Jr burger
d- salad w/grilled chicken, EVOO and balsamic
s- L&F yogurt
Have a great day!
