What's on your Wednesday menu?
hi all- this is my only call for the day- whahoo!
lots of things to get done before vacation
Meant to exercise this morning but this time change is making me so tired so I've been forcing myself to do at lunch time.
Here was my drama, carvana has offered to do a delayed return for a vehicle i bought end of august with NO TAG STILL. So they are coming tomorrow to get it, giving us a check for the down payment. So we are pressed to find another car. So we have one in mind to buy but still this was ridiculous. its fine to sell t them, just don't buy. And we are leaving sat for our trip.
QOTD: I do fairly well, I generally think about it a good bit to see all sides first if I can. I don't generally like to quickly confront and give it some time.

I have antiacid tablets and they do have a strong taste. A teaspoon of baking soda in about 4 ounces of water will do the trick and not have that strong taste.
I am in a confrontation now about a tax issue and will be irritated until it is resolved. I am sure I am right, and the other person is trying to prove that I am wrong. She thinks she is doing this behind my back and is acting so nice to me but has accidentally given me access to her SLACK remarks. SLACK is a community bulletin board used by professionals.
I have avoided most drama with family by walking away. I just do not want conflict and will act nice and give in while seething inside. Probably something I should work on with a therapist.

Mary, if it's a technical tax question and you want a second opinion, feel free to message me (no client identifying info please). If it's a software question or something like that I'm useless.

Thanks, I is partly software. A customer sold his rental home, but he had lived in it as his primary residence for two years before he converted it to a rental in 2019.
When he entered the sale in TurboTax, he did not get the $250,000 exclusion from tax on capital gain because he entered as sale of a rental.
I told him to enter as sale of primary home. But to also deduct the depreciation from the cost basis or the property for the two years that it was rented. That way he got the exclusion plus he properly deducted the depreciation.
This supervisor who does not understand the program the way I do wrote me up saying that I was telling a customer how to evade recapturing depreciation. I am off today and saw that before I quit yesterday. Will have to address that tomorrow but will not back down. And I am sure I will win, but is an irritating way to end a day.

Hey! Not to stalk you with tax questions but can you direct me to a resource on how to figure the cost basis of a rental? So Much differing information out there!!
I used to be an employee expert and wrote articles for Intuit on how to do taxes. I realize that I should have written one to make it simple to determine cost basis. It is not really simple, but :
1. Take the original cost that you paid for the property and subtract the value of the land
2. Divide the cost of the building itself by 27-1/2
3. That is your yearly depreciation cost and you multiply that by the number of years you took depreciation
4. Add the total cost of the home and property, the cost of any major improvements, and the cost of selling (advertising, real estate, taxes, etc.)
5. Subtract the total depreciation
If you look at your old tax records and find out depreciation was not taken, the IRS does not care, they make you pay it back even if you never took it.

Good morning everybody!
I woke up too early, and then went back to sleep and now that I'm awake for good, it's kind of late.
My endocrinologist's appointment went fairly well. I definitely get white coat syndrome. They always have to retake my blood pressure at the end of the appointment because its too high at the beginning. It doesn't help that they march me all over the place, weigh me, etc before putting on the cuff. But mainly its internal. My sugar was also high even though it was a 1:30 appointment, I was fasting since the previous night and went to the gym from 11-12.
I don't know why I get so stressed because I love this doctor.
Anyways she asked if I regretted surgery because I haven't been able to stay off all of my medications post surgery. I said absolutely not, I would do it again in a heartbeat.
I have a CASA Board meeting tonight. This is my second to last Board meeting. I also have a golf outing in May and a breakfast to celebrate the advocates in April. I joined the Board in 2015. Usually terms are for 6 years, but they asked me to do 7 because I was Treasurer. It's been a great experience, but I am ready to move on.
QOTD: Almost of my conflict is at work, and most of it involves billing. Like Jen says, I try to be data driven in arguments. I am also not afraid to walk away from people who I do not think are being reasonable.
Breakfast: Hash
Lunch: Turkey club sandwich
Dinner: Appetizers at Board meeting
Have a great day, all!
