What's on your photo Friday menu?
Good morning, everybody!
So Lana made the mistake of asking about Crossfit. Here goes.
Each year there is a Crossfit Open to determine the fittest person on earth. Anybody can enter. There are a series of workouts over a three week period. Each one is released on Thursday afternoon. So, for example, the first workout released this year was referred to as 22.1 because it was the first workout of the 2022 Open. Yesterday 22.3 was released. It needs to be completed and posted to Crossfit.com by Monday.
For the vast majority of people, the Crossfit Open is an online contest. Approximately 250,000 people enter, workout at their local gyms and post there scores online. The top 10% in each age/sex category go to quarterfinals which are also online. From Quarterfinals, about 1,200 people go to semifinals, which are in person in various sites around the world. Approximately 100 people from Semifinals go to the Crossfit Games which are held in Madison Wisconsin during July. Trish does not attend.
The 100 or so that end up in Madison (and on TV) are referred to as Games Athletes. Although not necessarily discernible to the untrained eye, there are subtle visual differences between the Games athletes and plodders like me:
Now for 22.3. As feared, it has a number of struggle busses for me. With a 12 minute cap:
21 jumping pull-ups
42 Double unders
21 Thrusters @ 45#
18 Chin over bar pull-ups
36 Double unders
18 Thrusters 65#
15 Chest to bar pull-ups
30 Double unders
15 Thrusters 85 pounds
So a descending set of pull-up variations in which the movements get harder as the repetitions get lower. Jumping Pull-up means stand with a bar 6 inches over your head, grab the bar and squat your knees until your arms are fully extended. Jump and pull your chin over the bar. Chin over bar pull-ups are similar except that you attar with your feet off the ground, hanging from the bar. Chest to bar is similar to chin over bar except that you have to pull yourself a few inches higher. Even fully rested, I can only do one or two chest to bar.
Also descending sets of double under jump rope. What that means is jumping once and passing the rope under your feet twice before they hit the ground. That movement is a real struggle for me.
Thruster means starting in a standing position with the barbell racked on your shoulders, doing a front squat and standing up, pushing on the barbell until it goes up and off of your shoulders and overhead. These are an exhausting movement but will not be the limiting factor for me.
A lot of the terminology is described below:
This morning, I will do a scaled version which has an easier pull-up progression and single unders. I will practice my doubles this weekend and do the workout described above on Sunday.
Other than that the weekend is mainly Happy Hour and getting my haircut. I will be traveling the next three weekends, so probably a low key one this week.
QOTD: Sweet, unfortunately.
Breakfast: Protein Bar
Lunch: Sausage and cottage cheese
Dinner: Chicken
Have a great day, all!

Probably not a whole lot of overlap with the cheese crowd.

actually, no tickets required! It's been closed to the public since COVID started, though (even this year - and it was only a couple of weeks ago, so I was a little surprised...). So maybe next year...
it's fun to watch them test the cheeses. Afterwards they cut the cheese wheels up into little cubes and leave them out for the public to taste. We've gone a couple of times - it's a good time!
All that, and I don't think she's around today!
