Hello Hello! Ready for Monday? I am not at allll ready. If I was smart I would have done a lot more work this weekend but I just couldn't motivate myself to do anything that would have helped me today. Oh well! But in exciting news, I offered a position out to someone in my department and she accepted yesterday! 2 more weeks until help arrives :)

QOTD: What do you do when you hang out with your best friend? Pre-pandemic we used to go to a lot of museums and restaurants or shopping, but now that we are stuck at home she usually comes here and we craft and cook and watch movies. We did that yesterday and it was fun! We watched the new West Side Story and made homemade pizza (which is why I resemble that meme).

It's freezing again today. Temps have a real feel below zero again so no way I am getting out to walk today but I am committed to doing some time on the elliptical this afternoon!

Good Morning all and wishing nobody a case of the Mondays!

QBJ-Nice meme! Glad you have help on the way at work. Do you use a pizza stone to make your own pizzas?

Weekend was good - got to spend time with my family yesterday. On Saturday, a friend and I went to visit a mutual friend in hospice. He is such a good human being and it's been hard watching his condition deteriorate over the last year. At least he's comfortable and without pain.

QOTD: I usually get together with my best friend and watch a sportsball game. Since surgery, he asked if it was alright for him to eat in front of me. He usually brings in Chinese food while I munch on a turkey sausage stick, string cheese, yogurt, or the like. We also play spades together at our local club.

B: Dannon Light and Fit Coconut Yogurt, Tangerine.

L: Some type of salad or inside of tacos at Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club. Question for everyone: are corn tortillas a really poor choice? I know flour tortillas are a no no overall.

D: 10 Clove Garlic Shrimp And Cauliflower leftovers.

Have a great day and start to the week.

For the first 30 months, I ate nothing made with flour, sugar, rice, cereal, pasta, bread, noodles, potatoes, pizza dough, corn, or peas. Those are all foods that are starchy and caused cravings for me. Corn tortillas were in same category for me as flour, totally off limits. I understood that the surgery for me was only going to work if I gave up the foods that got me to surgery in the first place.

When I started to have regain at 30 months, I went back to Weigh****chers and experimented with their plan. That included some of their products that I bought at their meetings like WW cookies. I used their points system and was able to maintain my weight that way, but I had already been below goal for over a year and still ate very small amounts of food.

For many years, I felt I was cured of obesity and gradually started eating all of the things that I had avoided for years. Along with that new freedom came new weight and I finally faced up to that and accepted that I had to eat less food to weigh less. I currently do have the attitude of YOLO, but know that I can only feel that way for a short time and then I have to go back to counting calories and dieting. At Christmas this year, I ate cookies and candy, ham, potatoes, corn, ice cream, and drank alcohol for about three days. I weighed myself on Sunday morning and the scale said 150. My place where I panic.

It took almost a month to get rid of the 4 pounds that I gained in 3 days. If I had kept eating like I was I could have easily gained 30 pounds by now. I go to WW meetings virtually. I keep most of the carby foods out of the house. I weigh every morning and don't excuse myself with saying it is water weight, when I know that I ate more than I needed. The corn tortilla could be a slippery slope. Be careful.

I don't think corn tortillas are much better than the flour ones nutrition-wise. I do get them when I order tacos, though, because they're sometimes smaller than the flour ones and in my opinion, they taste a lot better (well, they HAVE taste - the flour ones are kind of tasteless). Plus they have a more satisfying texture to them - more of a chew. But nutrient-wise, they're probably about the same. I didn't eat them my first couple of years out, but I do occasionally now - but not often. Just when I'm at a Mexican restaurant (which is a handful of times a year). My usual order is a street taco. The first year or two out I'd just eat the innards. Now I'll eat the tortilla, too.

just found this (there are also other things on the internet about corn vs flour tortillas). Corn tortillas are slightly more nutritious (although I'm not sure either are a great choice for us):

Thanks for the explanation. I love Mexican but I've stayed away from all tortillas, fried tortilla chips and rice since I'm so fresh. BTW-the tinyurl link took me to a redirected expired job posting through my cell phone google browser.

hmmm...that's weird. It says it's pointing to the WebMD article on tortillas, but clearly not. Here's the regular URL (I'd made a tinyurl since sometimes these long ones don't work - but I think the tinyurl site managed to muck this one up! Here's the original. If it doesn't take you anywhere, just google it. There are some articles on it - this one from WebMD):

I don't think I've had a corn tortilla since surgery, a few tortilla chips every now and then.

Try the cauliflower thins. I know they "sound" disgusting but after not being able to have any type of tortilla they taste amazing and do the job on taco nights.

Are these from TJ's? Do you prep them or straight from the package?
