Do you ever shop organic foods?

I bought a box of high protein organic cereal for $6 and it's not even the family size. Why is the pricing so jacked? My son and I spent a little extra time at the store, so I could browse around. I never knew there were so many protein bars, all located in the organic foods. I guess I always thought of organic food as tasting gross, but I was so wrong. I bought some sample packets of items and they were delicious! I'm not going full on organic, but there's definitely room in my home for these healthier choices.

Organic has nothing to do with an item being healthy it is how the grains and such are grown. Actually some organic items are higher in carbs and sugars depending on what they are because of what is added to them.

Organic food is more expensive because of the rules, certifications and processes required to grow and transport it. No chemicals generally means higher labor costs, smaller production, etc and so costs are higher.

When you say you thought organic foods tasted gross, I wonder if you were thinking of the "natural" foods? Like Carob instead of Chocolate style natural foods; or pb that separates with the huge oil slick on top vs jif....lol, I guess it's clear what I think of the natural foods aisle!

not sure why organic foods would taste "gross" - as PartlyPollyanna said, it just means they were grown without pesticides, hormones, etc. And that's also why they're more expensive - farmers end up with a smaller crop (or whatever) when they can't use things like pesticides and hormones...

So either way I need to read the labels and know my servings. The cereal was good this morning and I tried a protein bar for a snack and it didn't have a strange taste. I'm pre-planning my menus again week by week.
